Their diet consists mainly of grains and other cultivated crops, as well as grass seeds and wild fruits and seeds. During the breeding season, they also consume some insects. The species is distributed in countries including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sikkim, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
