2a. Accidents or problems can sometimes happen when we do sports. Write the letter of each sport next to each accident or problem that can happen.

A = soccer        B = mountain climbing      C = swimming

Step 3 Reading

1. Fast reading. 

Read the passage as quickly as you can, and try to answer three questions. 

  Q1. Why did Aron decide to cut off his arm?

  Q2. What did he do in order to save his own life?

  Q3. What did the book Aron wrote tell of?

 2. Detail reading. 

    ①Read the passage carefully and circle True, False or Don’t Know in 2c. 

    ②Check the answers with the students and help them understand the passage. 

    ③Read the passage and answer the questions in 2d. 

    ④Check the students answers to the questions. 

Step 4  Reading Strategy

    Writers describe events in a certain order. Finding the order of the events will help you understand what you are reading. 

    Put the sentences (in 2e)in the correct order. Then use them to tell Aron’s story to your partner. Try to add other details from the reading. 

    Ask some students to tell the story in class. 

Step 5 After Reading

    Talk about Aron Ralston freely in class. Answer the two questions ：

    1. What do you think of him?

    2. What can we learn from him?
