The Internet impacts greatly on learning currently. The Internet can be used to obtain information, read e-books, send e-mails to teachers, and so forth. One of the most influential aspects is that it can provide different online courses from other schools. Just as in the picture, a boy who comes from rural areas in Guangxi province is studying Peking University’s classes on the Internet, anyone else can register the Internet to learn. However, the factor is that education does not simply mean learning to gain information.
The reasons why education indicates more than acquire information may be seen from two sides. For one thing, education requires lots of information and students’ own thinking. Knowing how to get information by using the Internet is a prerequisite, but it cannot be absorbed and exerted well unless students can combine it with their understanding. For another, the Internet involves massive information. There is useful information, harmful information as well as unimportant information. And it is certain that something bad will bring destruction to education. In another word, students do not really need all the education.
All of this being said, the impact of the Internet on learning is obvious and multiple. On the other hand, education goes beyond obtain information. Only by accumulating information and adding more personal ideas can the Internet plays a vital role in students’ study.
