Do you get angry when you’re caught in heavy traffic? Anger is common to everyone but it’s important to deal with it in a positive way. If you can’t control your anger, it will have a bad effect on both your health and your relationship.
Do you want to get your anger under control? Start by considering these six anger management tips.
Think before you speak.
In the heat of the moment ( 一怒之下), it’s easy to say something you’ll later regret. Take a few minutes to think before saying anything.
Once you’re calm, express your anger.
As soon as you’re thinking clearly, express your feelings. Tell others your concerns and needs clearly and directly without hurting others.
Get some exercise.
Physical activities can help reduce stress that can cause you to become angry. If you feel very angry, go for a walk or run, or spend some time doing other enjoyable physical activities.
Take a short break.
Give yourself short breaks during the day. These can make you feel less stressful. A few minutes of quiet time might help you deal with problems better without getting angry.
Identify possible solutions.
Instead of focusing on what makes you angry, work on solving the problem. Remind yourself that anger won’t change anything, and may only make it worse.
Know when to ask for help.
Learning to control anger is a challenge for everyone at times. Consider asking for help if your anger seems out of control and causes you to do things you regret or hurts those around you. |

Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide guests with things like disposable (一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers. Many guests like the idea because they don’t have to bring their own. But if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring your own things, because some hotels in Beijing no longer provide guests with these disposable things. They want to ask people to use them less.
Many disposable things are made of plastic. People throw them away after only using them once. It is a waste of natural resources and is very bad for the environment. One Chinese person makes as much as 400kg of waste a year. Most of the waste comes from disposable things. In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1,320 tons of plastic lunch bowls every year! It can take between 100 and 400 years for plastic to break down. So the less plastic we throw out, the better. So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again.
Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your daily life: Use cloth shopping bags, not plastic ones. After using a plastic bag, you should wash it out and let it dry. Then you can use it over and over again. Do not use paper cups. At your school canteen (食堂), use your own bowl and chopsticks instead of disposable ones.
To protect our environment and our home, it is very necessary and important for us to save natural resources.
()30. Why do many hotels provide guests with some disposable things?
A. Because they want to let their guests feel convenient.
B. Because they want their guests to use their own things less.
C. Because they want their guests to save money.
D. Because they want their guests to use more disposable things.

I spent four years doing a job that I hated in a small company. And on July 2, 2013, I got fired (解雇). It was the first and only time that I had ever been fired, so getting fired made me sad.
However, later I learned that being fired wasn’t bad for me. It allowed me to go back to school and finish the degree (学位) I had to give up when I became a mother. Being fired allowed me to take an internship (实习) in the field where I got my degree. And that internship turned out to be my first job connected to my major.
Being fired allowed me to be happier. It allowed me to smile more. It allowed me to wake up and look forward to what I was going to do that day. I used to be negative (消极的) in my life and I didn’t realize that this feeling could do harm to my mind and body until I wasn’t feeling it anymore. Even though I didn’t see it at the moment when I was walking out of the company, being fired was one of the best things that had ever happened to me.
On the other hand, I’ve seen this in many other areas of my life: every friendship I lost has allowed me to make room for better people; every relationship that hurt me before has taught me a lesson.
Life is full of troubles. That’s just how it works. Although each of these moments seems to break me at first, it can make me stronger.
()34. What was the writer most probably told on July 2, 2013?
A. That she should change her attitude to small companies.
B. That she should stop hating her job.

A. She faced two choices.
B. She could enjoy a better life.
C. She should care about her health.
D. She couldn’t find a better job.
()37. What can we know from the passage?
A. The writer shouldn’t have given up her degree.
B. The writer didn’t have any good friends in her life.
C. The writer learned a good lesson from failure.
D. The writer made no achievements in her study.

Speaking of getting kids active, all of us have probably heard people say, “Kids should just go outside and play.” It is a nice idea, but we know it doesn’t work. In the last couple of years, I’ve heard some people say, “Parents shouldn’t play with their kids.” And it’s always said in the way as if playing with your kids is something bad and wrong. If we’re talking about kids aged 3-10 years especially, there are good reasons why you should play with them.
Quite simply, you might be living somewhere where your child has no one close to play with. What do you expect them to do? Play Frisbee by themselves? You’re making sure they get an active start in life despite (尽管) embarrassing situations if you play with them. And it’s very unlikely that you will have to be their suitable (合适的) playmate forever.
When you play with your child, you show that play never goes out of style, and you show them that you pay attention to physical activity. You can be sure of one thing: Your kids are watching you. And they will follow your example.
As you start your kids on the path to a love for physical activity, you set them up to become active for life. They are more likely to enjoy greater lifelong physical, mental, and emotional health.
If you make it fun, you will form a deep relationship with your kids by playing with them. I played with all three of my kids as they were growing up. And I am grateful that I did that.
There can be much laughter and pleasure in movement and play. When was the last time you experienced it? You’re never too old to play, and there’s no shame in hanging out with your children.
()38. What can we know from Paragraph 1?
A. Not all kids should play with their parents.
B. Not all parents know how to play with kids.
C. Not all people consider playing with kids important.
D. Not all kids are interested in playing with their parents.
()39. What is the first reason given by the writer?
A. No kids need playmates for fun.
B. Not all activities can be done alone.
C. Not all kids can find suitable playmates.
D. All kids want to play with their parents.
()40. According to Paragraph 3, what should parents do while playing with their kids?
A. Set an active example for their kids.
B. Teach their kids how to exercise properly.
C. Tell their kids what games are out of style.
D. Show the lessons they have learned while playing.
()41. What does the example of the writer’s own experience show?
A. Parents should make physical activity fun.
B. Both parents and kids need good memories.
C. Parents can also have fun through playing with kids.
D. Parents playing with kids leads to a close relationship.

Millions of people worldwide have been reported missing. Many of them went missing as a result of armed conflicts (武装冲突), such as the war in Syria, or in other places of violence. Large numbers of people disappear after natural disasters.
A new lab with the newest technology tries to help the families and friends of the missing. In late October, the International Commission on Missing Persons, or ICMP in The Hague opened the lab to help identify (鉴定) missing persons. The lab was created after the Srebrenica massacre. More than 8,000 Bosnians were killed after Bosnian Serb conquered (占领) the town of Srebrenica in 1995.
Since its creation, the ICMP has identified 20,000 human remains. It now helps to identify people who have been reported missing during conflicts, natural disasters and so on.
The group recently helped Ingrid Gudmundsson prove (证明) that her daughter and her one-year-old granddaughter were killed in the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. They went missing after the huge wave hit the coast of Thailand, where they were staying. Gudmundsson said it was important to know for sure what happened to them. “You know, when you don’t know where they are and when they are missing, you always feel sanguine even if your mind tells you that it’s impossible,” said she.
Scientists working at the lab say the new technology can identify people with a very small amount of DNA from a piece of bone. DNA carries genetic (遗传的) information in the cells of people, animals and plants. Rene Huel is a scientist at the lab. He said, “What we do is cross-compare against the family samples in these large databases (数据库).”
()42. What does the first paragraph mainly tell about?
A. The results of natural disasters.
B. The reasons for people’s going missing.
C. The backgrounds of the armed conflicts.
D. The reports of many people’s going missing.
()43. The example of Ingrid Gudmundsson tells us __________.
A. missing people are likely to be found
B. few people lived the Indian Ocean Tsunami
C. many people were missing on the coast of Thailand
D. missing people’s families would rather know the truth
()44. What does the underlined word “sanguine” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Unbelievable. B. Unlucky.
C. Hopeful. D. Thankful.
()45. Where can we probably read the passage?
A. In a storybook.
B. In a fashion magazine.
C. In a newspaper.
D. In a travel guide.

As we all know, smart phones are more and more popular. It’s very convenient for us to look up some information, and to shop online. At the same time, it’s easy to communicate with others with smart phones.
However, phubbing can be seen everywhere. Some people stay at home all day playing on smart phones without communicating with their families. Some students are addicted to playing games on it and can’t focus on their study. What’s worse, it’s harmful to our health.
In my opinion, we should say goodbye to phubbing. Use smart phones properly, and spend more time chatting with our families. Read more books without using smart phones.
