Well, let me talk about my experience about helping my roommate John, which happened a couple of weeks ago. Back then, it was mid-night. John suffered from an acute cold. At that time, he was burning. Maybe his body temperature is about 40℃. You know, at that circumstance, we have no choice but sent him to hospital. I took all the cash and helped him get dressed, and then we hurried to the nearest hospital. However, it took us 15mins to catch a taxi, but that is not the only trouble. When we arrived there, we cannot find the emergency room, as both of us were unfamiliar with this hospital. Fortunately, the doctor gave him an injection, and he felt much better soon. Picking up some medicine, we finally went back. John had expressed his gratitude to me several times. He even treated me a big meal. But I believe a friend in need is a friend indeed. Besides, I do enjoy the feeling of being needed. 

理想工作

My favorite job is to be a scientist. When I was a young kid, I dream about making contributions to the technological advances. Since then, I liked reading stories about many famous scientists, such as Albert Einstein. You know he is one of the most intelligent person in the world and his revolutionary theory, relativity theory, is so fascinating, even until now, I can’t understand his theory deeply.6 years ago, I choose material science and engineering as my major. I have to admit that I was inspired by him. I hope devote my whole life to science. And now I’m engaged in designing a novel kind of additive for recycled Al alloy. You know Al recycling attracts wide attention all around the world, because it can significantly benefit our environment. I think I am on my way to fulfill my dream of being a successful scientist. I may get into lot of difficulties, but I believe as long as I persist in it and acquire good enough qualification,   I will find a position in a college or institute.

Ok，let me talk about my favorite shopping street called Quancheng Road. It is suited in the center of Jinan City and it is quiet long. The street is made up of many parts, like the food section, clothing section, there are also a supermarket there. Many local citizens go shopping there every day. Also many travelers visited this street as there are many cultural heritages around it. All the tourists expect to gain an exciting shopping experience there, and Quancheng Road never let them down. You know tons of stuff there and everyone can find what he or she want. My favorite part is the clothing section. I can find fashionable clothes, including casual clothes, formal clothes and sports clothes there. Most importantly, the price is always reasonable. You know, I don’t have enough money to buy a lot of clothes, so I just go there about once a month, even though it is just about 15 minutes’ walk to get there. I usually go to there with my friends, but recently they are all very busy. So I have not been there for 6weeks. I am planning to buy some new clothes next week coz I will have some important job interview to attend recently.

Let me talk about Republic of Korea which is close to my country. In fact, it is located to the east of China. Basically, its culture is similar to the Chinese culture, though there are still some differences between them and this is also the main reason why I think it is interesting. There are many talented Korean singers and composer. And their music is very creative. You know, last year, a Korean singer PSY became popular around the world, just because of the song Gangnan Style. Also, the Korean movies and TV series have quite a large following in China. Also, a host of world-class directors and actors work there. Recently, many Chinese people, especially young student are attracted by Korean TV series, but to be honest, I don’t watch these TV series, because they are too sensational. I begin to know Korea when I was still a young boy. My grandpa told me a lot of his experience in Korea. In 1950’,he attended the Korean war there. Recently, I got a large of information about it from internet. You know nowadays, a lot of websites are informative, such as Sina and Yahoo. I tend to use them to search anything I want about Korea. It presents up-to-the-minute coverage of newsworthy events in Korea. To be honest, I have been planning to Korea and the internet really helped me a lot to set my schedule. 

鸿门宴

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to a friend’s home. At that time, he was alone at home, and his parents were out for business. At first, we just chatted, we talked a wide range of things, from international politics to China economy. Before we felt that, it had been 12 o’clock. Actually, we were really hungry, but unfortunately, there was not ready-made stuff in the fridge. So we had to cook a meal for ourselves. We went to a grocery store and bought lots of stuff. After returning his house, we rinsed all the stuff and begun to prepare for the lunch. The process took us about 1 hour, and finally we cooked four dishes. Setting the table well, we just help ourselves to the wonderful food. After the main course, we had some ice cream as dessert, it was really memorable. Recently, I have decided to have a similar meal next week in my home this time, we will cook more dishes. You know, I have been learning how to cook now, I can’t wait that day come around.

Well, let me talk about my favorite types of clothes, suits, and I think the reason for it diverse. First, the most important one is this kind of dress can make me formal and decent in work places. Furthermore, I do not need to worry about cleaning, you know, suits can be cleaned by the suit store free of charge. I tend to buy my suits from a suits store. I feel it is more liable there. You know the quality and after-sale service are easy guaranteed. Recently, many suits offer online shopping, which makes it more convenient, there is no need to go out and walk for a long distance. As for frequency, I tend to buy one suit every year, because the brand suits are often expensive. It is not easy for me to buy too often. In fact, wearing suits, I don’t need to wear about fashion, so there is no need for me to change it frequently.

Well, let me talk about a TV commercial which I saw 6 months ago. It told a short story. At the beginning, a businessman rushed to a taxi. Having arrived at an office building, he got into the lift and rode up to the 10tn floor, looking confidently. However, when he noticed that he was wearing sneakers, he began to be nervous. They did not match with his suit. But, there was no time for him to change them. So, He had to attend the interview, wearing the sneakers. After that, he really seemed disappointed. All of a sudden, he received a call, which informed that he was recruited. The man was so excited that he jumped into the air. And the voiceover said: as long as you are competent, you will be appropriately assessed. I think this Ad is dependable, unlike others are misleading. It teaches he an important lesson that ability is more valuable than appearance. And this is why I am persuaded to buy its products. You know, I have recommended this ad to my friends. To my surprise, they always said that it is more a public-benefit advertisement than a commercial. And they always like it very much.

Well, let me talk about a speech that I heard a couple of weeks ago. One of the top scientist in my research field was invited to our laboratory to give us a report on his recent discovery. His name is SunBaoDe, dean of material faculty in Shanghai JIaotong university. The seminar was held in a meeting room, which has a seat capacity about 300. And at that day, the meeting totally packed with students from various laboratories. And even the aisle was occupied. At the beginning of the speech, the professor give us a brief introduction about his research. He told us that he had devoted himself to his field for more than 20 years. And at the early stage, he really went through a lot of hardships. He encouraged us to develop our own interests in a specific area,regardless of others’ comment. As long as we persist in it, we will gain success in the near future. All the audience were impressed by his knowledge, so after he finished his presentation, some of us approached him right away to chat with him. His speech really great inspiration to conduct my research and I adore him. I hope I can get further instruction from him both in academic research and adult life.

身居要职

Well, let talk about my uncle, john, who has an important job. He is a fireman, working at a fire station in my hometown. He is confronted with saving people and their properties from burning houses. When people were crying in burning houses, he would always appear at first time. Usually, my uncle only has one-day off every week, because his station is so important. I once asked him why he chosed to become a fireman. He told me that fit him well as he liked helping others. In fact, as long as he has spare time, he will try to help the disabled around him to do household chores. He always says that helping others gives him a sense of accomplishment. If there are more people like him in society, the world must be more harmonious. He is 34 years old, but he looks much older than that. It can be attribute to his job. I mean too much hard word makes him more aged. He is really a nice guy and I admire him.

   Let me talk about the decision that I regret most so far. 2 years ago, when I graduated from my university, I faced with the choice of where to pursue my master’s degree. I could go on my study in the university where I received my bachelor’s degree without exams, because of my excellent scores there, but I want to transfer to a better university. Under this circumstance, I had to attend an entrance exam. It was a very touchy decision at that moment.

   My parents had a one-hour-long conversation with me and they were obviously concerned about me, they thought it would be worthwhile if I put a steady patch of life at risk simply because I needed a change. And they worried that I would fail in the entrance exam. Some of my friends also were against my plan coz I would have to make great effort for it. I’m ashamed that I was persuaded by them and finally determined to stay at the same university, you know, now, I’m bored with all those things around me now, I feel my life is in a situation that never changed. Advice is something that helps people to see things more clearly, not something stopping us pursuing a better life.

Well, let me talk a USB disk, I have already had 1 USB disk, which I bought 2 years ago, but its storage capacity is too small now. So, this time, I need a USB disk with at last 8GB (giga [gigə] byte [baɪt])storage capacity. What’s more it should be tiny but sturdy, you know, I like to carry it all the time, in order to bring some important files or photos with me, so these features are necessary. Besides, the new USB disk should transfer data at a much faster rate, maybe 50MB/s or more. According to what I know, recent technological advances have made this come true. That’s meaning, I can copy a certain file in a shorter time. I have cheeked its price on the internet, usually; this kind of USB disk will cost me about 50 Chinese Yuan. I tend to buy it through online shopping coz it is so convenient. Just click the button ‘buy it now’ and then wait for one or two days. I don’t like going shopping in a store, especially in summer. How will I use it? well, I just connect it to my computer via a USB port and all set. I think it will be compatible with my computer, as this is a common character for USB disks.

Let me share you a story called 3 little dogs, which was told by my father when I just about 5 years old.

Once upon a time there were 3 little dogs, they moved to a new village and built their new houses. The first little dog built an earth house near a river, because it is convenient to use water. In this circumstance, he didn’t have to walk a long distance to get water. The second little dog built a wooden house under a big tree, which made his house shady and cooler, especially in hot summer. The third dog walked throughout this place to find a good position. Finally, he chose to build a stone house on a small mountain.  One day, it began to pour, and the flood came along. The flood washed away almost everything, including two houses that belonged to the two dogs. Obviously, the third dog’s house was left intact. I think this story teach me an important lesson: hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Well, I am going to talk about the sea beach located in Weihai City. It takes me about 10 hours to reach there by train. I like the clear water and the wonderful sand beach. I can do a lot of interesting things there, such as swimming and sunbathing. You know I have been learning how to swim well. I hope I will have a chance to show it. I will invite my best friend, to go together with me. You know he is a professional photographer. With his help, I can record all of these precious memories there. In the past, there were many villages along it, and the people there rely on fishing. But now, these villages are gone and many modern buildings such as hotels, restaurants replaced them in order to offer best services to visitors. I hear that it is the best place to see sunrise in Shandong province, as it is the east end of the province. You see, lying on the wonderful beach to see beautiful sunrise is a fantastic thing.

Well, let me talk about a special toy. It was a remote car model. On my 8-year-old birthday, my parents gave it to me as a gift. I considered it to be special because it was a very high-tech robot at that time and I was proud of it. It had four wheels and I could regulate its movement through remote control. I used to play with it in my bedroom. It would cry if it knocked into the wall. However, once I touched the button on its face, it would immediately stop crying. It brought a lot of fun into my childhood. At that time, few kids had this kind of car, and I always showed it to my peers. Of course we would play together. My father also played with me together, During which time, he taught a lot of lessons about how to be a valuable social member. I really appreciated my father. It was my first birthday present and it meant a lot to me. Although it had been broken, I still kept it. Whenever I saw it, I remembered the happy time of childhood.

健康方式

Well, let me talk about my method to keep healthy. I keep on running almost every day, usually in the evening. I find that it helps me keep fit and healthy. I began running about one year ago. I enjoy it very much because it doesn’t require any special skills or abilities. You know, in the past, I did little outdoor activities. In most cases, I spent the whole day in front of a computer. As a result, I often felt tired and suffered from insomnia. And one of my friends suggested me to do some exercises. And then I took his advice and began to run. To be frank, its benefits are obvious. Now it is easy for me to fall asleep and I am less likely to feel tired in daytime. Whenever I come back from running, I feel surprisingly refreshed. So I think I have to thank my friend.

And also, I will keep the habit as it is the best way for me to keep healthy. Even in these days when I’m busy with preparation for this exam, I still keep running. In fact, if I stop doing it, I will feel uncomfortable. In other words, running has become a regular part of my leisure time.

户外运动

Ok, let me talk about my plan about swimming in the sea. I decide to do it in the following National Day holidays. You know, at that time I will have an opportunity to go to Weihai City where the seaside is wonderful. Swimming is a good workout because it exercises every muscle of my body. Also I guess swimming skills are important because sometimes it can really save lives. To swim in the sea, I have to plan well and take my equipment with me, such as swimwear, swimming cap and so on. Maybe I have to carry enough cash with me because I hope to spoil myself there for 6 days. Actually, I once learned how to swim but I just couldn’t do it well. Some of my friends even laugh at me. Recently I am taking a swimming course. The instructor is very nice. With his patient instruction, I am progressing rapidly. I hope to have an opportunity to show it to my friends and I think this is the reason why I want to swim in the sea. To be frank, I am really tired of the daily routine and I hope to escape from it for a while. You know, lying on the wonderful beach to see beautiful sunrise is also a fantastic thing.

Let me talk about my laboratory, where I spend most of my time. It is located in a high building, being about 100 square meters. Actually, it is just like an average meeting room with high ceilings. But it is equipped with plenty of facilities, such as a microwave, a fridge, a microscope, and something alike.

I usually use the microscope to characterize the feature of some casting alloys, to determine grain size and the distribution of porosity [pɔː'rɒsɪtɪ in alloys. I have to share the lab with about 10 people. So when all of us are there, it is really crowded. But it is also pretty dynamic. When I am there alone, it is rather spacious. You know, as there are many living facilities, such as the fridge and the microwave, I often store some food there in case I have to stay up there. Looking out of the window, there is a big garden, growing various kinds of flowers, and I really love the fragrance .Though it is crowded sometimes, I still like it because it is convenient and comfortable for me to study.

Well, let me talk about my hope to learn Japanese. I like watching Japanese programmes, such as NHK documentary. I would be cool if I could understand what they are describing without referring to the subtitles. And also I think Japanese is a very useful language as sometimes I have to read Japanese references. To learn it well, I have many difficulties to overcome. Now I have many research tasks to accomplish. So, I should manage my time wisely and reasonable timetable is a necessity. Also I had better get up early because I have better efficiency in the morning.

Since I have learnt English for many years, I accumulate some strategies that are effective for language-learning. For instance, memorize words while waiting fir a bus. Besides I will go on watching Japanese programmes, which is a good way to enhance my listening skills. Maybe an electronic dictionary will be beneficial. If I can stick to it, eventually I’ll be able to speak fluent Japanese. It will be a great success for me and I’m looking forward to fulfilling this goal.

数学课

Well, let me talk me a class when I was in grade 4. At that day, my mathematics teacher taught us how to calculate a circle. At the beginning, he asked us how to calculate a rectangular area, you know, he always had some incredibly fun ways to make complicated problems easy. After we answered the question, he asked me what the common trait of a circle and a rectangular was. I really had an idea about it, so I answered that they were both circled by a line. My teacher said “Yes, absolutely right, we can connect a circle to a rectangular, so that it will be easy to calculate its area. And then, he asked me to separate a circle into 10 equal parts and cut them, and finally put them together to form a rectangular. At this moment, he said “So you know how to calculate its area, it just the product of radius and perimeter, which is similar to a rectangular.” I think this is an important class which teaches me an important skill transferring an unfamiliar problem into a familiar one, so that I can solve it easily.

Let me talk about a book called “Little bee”, which is a best-seller recently in China. It tells about a bee who wants to fly away from his place. However, all of bees around him attempted to stop him. They described it as a hazardous trip to leave home. At first, the bee got confused and he began to worry about these difficulties that he would encounter. But fortunately, he finally decided to take an adventurous trip to experience something totally different from his daily life. And then he started to fly. After a long flight, he began to feel tired and at the same time, a totally different scenery showed in front of him. He got inspired and finally overcame all kind of difficulties and reached a new world.

This book was recommended by one of my friends and I view it as a motivational book. It teaches me an important lesson that the biggest difficulty is from my heart. If I would not worry about potential risks, I could do anything well. To be frank, it really helps me to make some important decisions and this is also the reason why I want to reread it.

科学课程

Well, let me talk about a scientific class which I attended 3 years ago. At that time, I was a senior in my university. I used to sit in the first row when I attended specialized course. One day, my teacher came to the classroom and said: “Today we are going to talk about how wheels are manufactured in factories.” You know, wheels are an essential part of a car. Before this lesson, I knew nothing about the process of wheel manufacturing. So it really kindled my interest. At the beginning, my teacher gave us a lot of knowledge about wheel design and then interpreted how wheel was produced through casting. First, Alumium alloy was melt into molten fluid in  furnaces. Secondly, it was poured into a mould, which had the profile of the wheel. After that, the solidified casting would be further processed before sales, such as polishing and painting. To be honest, I think it was a pretty useful lesson. I still remember almost everything that happened in that lesson.

迟到

Let me talk about an important occasion that I was late for. It was about 2 years ago, when I was about to graduate from my university, I spent several months on finding a decent job. One day, I got an email from a company, one of the top companies in manufacturing field. It invited me to attend a job interview. However, I was too excited to sleep well that night. As a result, the next morning, I woke up late and only half an hour left. In a great hurry, I took a taxi and told the driver to drive as fast as possible, unfortunately, I was stuck in traffic. We moved slowly to my destination in that circumstance. I had no choice but to call the HR manager and apologized that I would probably be late for the interview. But the manager said the interview will begin on time and all candidates should arrive on time. Consequently, I was late and I lost the opportunity. I really feel regretful; otherwise I may be working at that company now. From then on, I have never been late for any occasion as I do realize the important of punctuality. That’s why I always leave home earlier just in case of any unexpected situations.

Well, let me talk about a rule on forbidding phones in schools. This rule started about 3 years ago, as a result of increasing number of students having a mobile phone. The school rigorously restricts the proliferation of phones. They ask parents to take back the mobiles from their children. And they also take children’s phone away if the child doesn’t follow the rule. Maybe, having a mobile has many drawbacks. For instances, many children get addicted to it and subsequently suffer from poor academic performance. What’s worse, some children use cell phones to cheat in exams. In this respect, forbidding phones really benefits to students. However, I think it is not reasonable. In my opinion, mobile phones are the most convenient way for students to contact with their parents, especially for those who can only go home once a month. You know, when I was a middle school student, I had to stay at school for a whole month. In this circumstance, a cellphone is a necessity to keep in touch with my parents and friends. I think it is more reasonable to restrict the use of phone in classroom rather than totally forbid it.

Well, let me talk about an email that I received a couple of weeks ago. It was from my supervisor conveying his advice that suggested me to study abroad. It was a nice surprise. He told me the advantages and disadvantages of going abroad. He wrote the email in an emotional way, so I was almost moved to tears by his enthusiasm. You know, I always fear changes in life, and I’m afraid that I can’t adjust to foreign customs. But my supervisor said in the email: It wouldn’t be worthwhile, if I put my future at risk, just because I resist a change. I was grateful to his inspiration and determined to pursue my dream of studying abroad. The reason why I think it is important is that it may alter my career. Even though, my future is full of uncertainty, I still appreciate my supervisor’s encouragement, and I will face up to the challenges.

一见如故

Well, let me talk about my best friend, GSong. 6 years ago, we met for the first time. At that day, we took the same train, and he just sat next to me. During the long train journey, we began to chat. After a brief self introduction, we realized that we were from the same university and doing the same thing: returning to school. Due to similar experience in campus, it was easy for us to have a deep conversation. We talked about various topics, from China economy to international affairs. It was pretty memorable. After returning to school, we continued to contact with each other. In fact, we had become good friend since we began to talk. Maybe having common interest and values is the main reason why we can become friends immediately. You know, he is a generous and patient person. Whenever I am in trouble, he will appear at first time, offering all kinds of support including money and inspiration. I think our friendship will sustain for the whole life.

Well, let me talk about a radio /TV programme called artist life, which is an evening talk show. It is well known among Chinese people. I often watch/listen to it in my dorm. It begins at 8:00pm. Whenever I returned my dorm, I will wear headphone and switch on my computer/radio to watch/ listen to it.

The programme usually invites artists to share their life experience with the audience. They can be singers, directors and actors. Usually, the host will try his best to play a trick on the invited artists and this moment makes me laugh a lot. You know, those stars are also ordinary people like each of us. They also have made all kinds of mistakes in their lives. Whenever they talk about their funny mistakes, I will laugh together with them. Also the programme tells the audience the stories behind the success of the famous figures. You know, everyone has to struggle against adversity. These stories shorten the distance between the audience and the stars. 

历史趣闻

Let me talk about an interesting event that happened in my hometown about 100 years ago. My grandfather told it to me as a story when I was a child. Back then, a guy just lost everything in gambling, including his wife and his house. The only thing he had was debt, so he decided to rob the bank and get some money. But the problem was he didn’t have a gun. You know, at that time, a gun was a luxury for average people in China. So this guy made a wood gun which could not fire but had exactly the same appearance with a real gun. Then he entered the bank, approached tellers and asked them to give him cash. Of course, the police came before he left. The guy got so scared that he tried to shoot at the cops. Apparently, he was arrested by the police.

The historical event was interesting. A guy rob a bank, with a wooden gun. But actually, it was a sad story. And now I often tell it to my friends, we all think it teaches us an important lesson that we should keep away from gambles all the time.

野餐

Well, let me talk about an excursion in this spring. I went to a forest park with several friends. We brought picnic blanket and two backpacks of food. When we got there, we rent a suit of cookers from the shop there. You know, we bought pork, beef, fish, chicken and many kinds of vegetables. After being grilled, they were all delicious. And we also cooked 4 dishes. That was really a wonderful meal. The scenery there was beautiful, and it was real a good place to have a camping. But last time, we didn’t prepare well, So recently we are planning go there again. This time we will plan well for a camping. To be frank, I can’t wait that moment came around. You know, lying beneath the stars is a wonderful. Next month, I will have a seven-day off; I hope to spoil myself to have a camping there. The picnic really made me fell refreshed and let me get it of the daily routine.

Let me talk about Yu Quan, which, in fact, is made up of two singers. They are my favorite singers. But their voices are too similar to be distinguished. In fact, all of their songs are combined masterpiece. Many people like their songs, especially young people. Their songs have a special effect to let people look on the bright side. I think their songs belong to pop music. Whenever I feel depressed, I will listen to their music to cheer me up. When it comes to the reason why I adore them, I think it is their incredible reputation in young generation. To be frank, almost every young adult have listened to their songs. I believe their songs are motivational, and they encourage me to cope with hardship courageously kə'reidʒəsli]. I used to be a pessimistic boy. Thanks to their songs, I have become an optimistic man now. I have never seen them before, but this October, they will hold a concert in Jinan. I managed get a ticket. And I hope to take an photograph with them.

房间

Well, I have been living in residence halls since I was 14years old. So today I wanna talk about my present dormitory. It’s just located in our campus, on the third floor of a six-storey building. It’s kind of worn-out, maybe it was built 20 years ago. It’s not very big, just like 10 m2 and it’s quite simple and crude. There are 4 single beds in the room and 4 cabinets next to them. There is also a small bathroom, which is convenient for us to wash clothes and take a shower. I share this room with 3 roommates. They are all my good friends, which is the most important reason why I’m fond of this room. In this private space, we share happiness and dream; we talk about science and technology. Sometimes we play games for fun. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the night together. Frankly speaking, we really treasure this period that we live together.
