Let the students guess the meaning of the words when they are reading.

Teaching  procedures

Step1  Revision

1.Brainstorming:Ask some students to write down some words that can describe their friends on the blackboard.(Words about appearance and personality or quality)

2.Show them the words on the screen.

3.Do some exercises for revision.(some important phrases of the last lesson )

Step2 Led in  

1.Say to them :I asked you to preview the articles .They talked about three best friends.

Answer:Who are they?                                   Ss: They are…

2.Show them the pictures of PartB1 ,ask them to read the descriptions and choose the correct pictures.Then skim the articles and say who they are.

Step3Reading

1.Scan for information and fill in the table:

Intonation.

3.Ask some students to read and do the "True or false"questions.(PartC1)

Then check out their answers and correct the mistakes.

4.Read in details.

Read the aricle of Bettty and answer the  questions.

1)Is Betty slim?

2)What kind of person is she?

3)What does she want to do when she grows up?

Read the aricle of Max and answer the  questions.

1)How tall is Max ?

2)2)Why does he have poor eyesight?

3)What kind of person is he?

Read the aricle of May and answer the  questions.

1)Is May pretty?

2)Why is she a true friend?

Ask some pairs of students to ask and answer in pairs.

5.Read and choose the best friend(PartB1)

6.Read and find some important phrases.

Step4Activities

1.Read the articles and try to retell the articles according to some key notes.

2.Discussion:Vote for the best friend

We have learnt a lot about Betty, Max and May. If you can choose only one of them as your best friend, who will you vote for? Why?

3.Finish PartC2 and do some exercises.(If time is enough.)

Step5Homework

1.Finish the exercises of workbook(PartV -VI).

2.Read the articles and try to find out some important sentences and difficulties.(Raise up the difficulties next lesson.)

3.Try to say something about your best friend,write it on your own notebooks.
