Everyone knew that Stuti was the best speller in the whole class. She could spell difficult words like “encyclopedia” and “amendment” very 21 . She used to get perfect scores during each weekly spelling test.
Ms. Daisy, her English teacher made a 22 for the spelling tests that any child who doesn’t get at least 60% correct spellings would have to correct each wrong word and copy three times for next week’s spelling test. Seema, who sat next to Stuti always struggled (挣扎) in spellings. Last Thursday, she received 56% which meant she had to 23 the rest 44% words three times.
Stuti was so 24 in her spelling abilities that she decided not to study for her next spelling test. The test began. Ms. Daisy pronounced each word and then repeated it. Everything was OK until she spoke “Handkerchief”. Stuti scribbled (匆匆书写) h-a-n-d-k-e-r-c-h... now what? Her mind was blank.
Ms. Daisy started to move on to the next word. An idea came into Stuti’s mind that Seema 25 how to spell it! Seema had written this word three times.
There was wide open space between Stuti and Seema. Stuti’s eyes rolled (滚动) to the right. There it was, spelled out in Seema’s handwriting. Her eyes went quickly back to her own paper and 26 the word with the letters “i-e-f”.
Stuti remained nervous as Ms. Daisy read the last spelling word. She had 27 just for the first time in her life. She thought, “Is this the way I want to keep my perfect record — by being a cheater?”
Finally, she erased what she had written earlier and replaced it with what she knew was the wrong answer. She wrote “e-i-f”. As her hands put down her pencil and passed the test up to the front, she sighed with relief (解脱). She thought, “So, what if my perfect scores are no longer being kept? At least my 28 is.”

In the US, lots of people have waimai, or food sent to their homes. Pizza and Chinese food are popular. The delivery 54 can usually get the food to your door in half an hour
But waimai for other things is not so quick in the US. For example, if you order toothpaste or cooking oil, it will usually 55 at least one day to arrive.
Here in China. I can order nearly anything and get it 56 just 30 to 45 minutes. Did I forget to buy onions and cabbages for making dinner? No problem——waimai will deliver it soon. There is even waimai for things 57 medicine and snacks.

Have you ever watched the movie Twilight, one of The Twilight Saga《暮光之城》系列)? Bella is a teenage girl who leaves her mum and her mum’s new husband 59 her dad. She moves to Forks, Washington. Arriving at the small town, she knows Jacob and 60 friends, as well as the handsome boy Edward Cullen, who appears cold and warm unexpectedly but with great 61 . Bella then falls in love with Edward, the 62 vampire(吸血鬼).
I am really fond of the first scene of the film. There is a wolf 63 very fast across the forest, with voice of Bella. She says she 65 about dying, but maybe it will be 66 and not too bud to die beside her lover. Seeing the running wolf, I can 67 imagine that it is a love story between a high school girl and a charming vampire. I just thought that it would be quite interesting, exciting, may be frightening as well 68 .
Besides, the film 69 by the teenage girl at the first person at the beginning and I only know what she knows. It makes me 70 myself to the story and feel that I am the very heroine in the film, 71 can feel happy, sad, anxious, it is a great film, and really worth 72 . By the way, it’s a typical Hollywood film which has clear cause- and effect order, and the main roles always have 73 goal—to be together with the one you love, no matter what he is, human or vampire.
What’s more, the ending is happy that Bell and Edward got together with each other. I strongly recommend you watch it when you are free.

Many years ago, when I was fresh out of school and working in Denver, I was driving to my parents’ home in Missouri to spend Christmas with them. I stopped halfway at a 74 to refill my tank. While I was standing in line at the cash register (收款台), I said hello to an old couple who were also 75 gas.
I started my car, but had gone only a few miles when black smoke 76 from the back of my car. I stopped and 77 what I should do. A car slowed down behind me. It was the couple I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they 78 take me to my parents’ home. We chatted on the way into the city. Before leaving, I asked the husband 79 their address and he gave me his business card.
Before Christmas, I wrote to the couple asking if I could thank them 80 . Soon, I received a Christmas present with a note from them. They 81 refused my request. They just said helping me had made their holiday 82 .
Years later, after finishing a one-day meeting in New York, I returned to my car, only to find that I’d left the lights 83 all day, and the battery (电池) was dead. Then I noticed that the Friendly Ford Dealership—a shop 84 cars—was right next door. I walked over and found two salesmen in the showroom.
“Just how friendly is Friendly Ford?” I asked and told them about my 85 . They quickly drove a pickup truck to my car and started it. They would accept no pay, 86 I wrote them a note to say thanks after returning home. Soon, I got a letter from one of them. 87 had ever taken the time to write to him to say “thank you”, he said, and they were two 88 words but meant so much.

Hello, everyone! I’m Mary Green. Let me tell you about school breaks (短假) and a holiday for American students. American students 90 three school breaks and a holiday. They are fall break, winter break, spring break 91 summer holiday. The longest (最长的) holiday is summer 92 . It’s about ten weeks.
93 break is about twenty days. It’s in December and January. You can 94 it “snow week” because many students go snowing during that break. The spring break is in March. It is about two weeks. Because the students have 95 school breaks and holidays, they don’t go to 96 . Also, on Thanksgiving, students usually 97 a three-day holiday.
What do you think about American 98 and their holidays? Are they happy and free? Thank you for listening.

Sam was very nervous. It was his first day in a new 107 , and lunch was only thirty minutes away. For most students, lunch is the 108 part of the school day. It is time when you talk with your friends, get to know what interesting things everyone is doing, and, of course, 109 . Sam, however, didn’t know anyone or anything, like where to sit or with whom to sit at lunch.
Sam’s 110 was in the army, so his family moved a lot. He had really liked his old school and 111 leaving his two best friends. They still talked to each other through phone calls and emails, 112 he couldn’t see them every day. He wondered if their 113 would continue. He didn’t want to lose them, but he knew it would be 114 for them to stay close.
“I know this is hard on you.” his mother said as he got ready for school this morning, “and I’m really 115 you have to keep changing schools.” Sam could see regret in her eyes, but he didn’t want her to feel that way. 116 had always been ready to defend (保卫) not only the family but also the country. Sam loved her so much. He gave her a smile and told her not to 117 . He had wanted to mean it. but there was still always worry in him when they moved.
The 118 time came quickly. As Sam was walking to the dining room, a voice behind said, “Excuse me.” Sam 119 and saw five friendly faces.
“Would you like to join us?” asked one of them.
This 120 invitation was exactly what he needed. Sam nodded yes 121 and joined them. He was sure about his future school life now.

At the end of my first year of high school, I realized I needed to find a summer job. I was tired of having to ask my parents for 122 . I wanted to go to the shopping center 123 movies with friends without having to ask for $20 from my parents. I imagined having a job at a store or at a summer camp where I could play games with children. But what 124 happened was disappointing. The only job I managed to find was cleaning up tables at a local restaurant.
125 first, the idea of clearing tables upset me. The thought of getting up at dawn(黎明)to go to clean up after people made me 126 ever asking for a job. The first day was terribly busy. I was running around, racing to get a table ready for the waiting customers. I’ll never forget how 127 I felt that day,but I’ll also never forget sitting down for lunch with my coworkers for the first time. People my age or ten years older all sat together and talked about their days. All of a sudden I was a part of that, and it felt good to be so 128 .
I’ve now worked at the restaurant for almost one year. I’ve learned to be happy about getting up so early, because I know there’re going to be a few good 129 every day there.
From starting there as a shy student,I’ve been able to grow into a person that can go up and 130 anyone,at work or anywhere else. I’m also not as sensitive(敏感的)as I used to be getting an impolite customer might make me feel bad,and I can’t wait to 131 and continue to grow from my experience.

It happened when I was a little girl. I can remember neither the beginning nor the end, but whenever I think of it, tears run down my face.
When I was young, my family led a(n) 142 life in the country. As you can imagine, many country roads are difficult to walk on. One evening after visiting some relatives, the weather got very bad. It began to 143 on our way back home. Dad carried me on his back. Mom gave her overcoat to my brother. We walked together through the rain for more than an hour.
I was heavy at that time and Dad must be 144 to hold me for such a long time. He almost fell down many times. In hope of 145 my father’s burden(负担), I tried to walk by myself, but I achieved nothing since I was just a little kid.
When we arrived home, the inside of our house was 146 with rain water. The rain had come through our leaky(有裂缝的)roof and water was everywhere. Mom put bowls all around the house to try to 147 the rain. Then she put me and my elder brother to bed, carefully placing us on the remaining 148 place. I fell asleep soon. When I opened my eyes, I found Dad and Mom 149 in chairs, both having caught bad colds.
This is my very earliest 150 . That evening has long passed and now we live a much better life, but I won’t forget the rain we went through together. The rain, that evening 151 , will stay in my mind forever.
