The Importance of Reading Classics

    It is widely acknowledged that reading classics is both important and beneficial to the character development and personal growth of the young people. As for me, nothing can bring more joy and happiness than reading those masterpieces created by great figures like Confucius and Cao Xueqin. I believe works like The Dream in the Red Chamber and The Legend of Three Kingdoms can drastically elevate one’s aesthetic taste and deepen the understanding of the glorious history of Chinese culture.  

　　However, the modern society is full of temptations. Compared with TV soap operas, sport events, and video games, classical literary works are old fashioned and time consuming. In bookstores, “Fast-food” reading materials are replacing classics, and young writers with sensational and “cool” remarks win the support of a large number of fans.

Should One Expect a Reward When Doing a Good Deed?

    A great many people presume upon a reward when doing a good deed. First and foremost, there is a natural tendency to equate doing good deeds with a certain amount of reward, and reward with a certain amount of money. What is more, they maintain that since the basis of contemporary society is money, one of the major means of earning money is getting reward by doing good deeds.  

    On the contrary, the vast majority of people assume that doing a good deed should be based on people’s personal consciousness. Hence, doing a good deed is fulfilling itself and reward is of minimal significance. Numerous examples can be given, but this will suffice. Mr. Leifeng lived a simple life dedicated to doing good deeds without expecting any reward and helping people from all walks of life, yet he was remembered as one of the most successful hero of our time.  

Generally speaking, it is my view that we should not expect a reward when doing a good deed. We do this for enjoyment, self-fulfillment and spiritual enhancement, not for the purpose of reward.

　　Recent decades have seen the rapid development of information technology, and thereby E-books have wound their way intoour daily life. Because of the wide and quick popularity of E-books, there has been an increasing controversy overthe question of whether E-books will replace traditional books or not.  

    Many people hold the idea that it will not take long for E-books to replace traditional books because E-books have quite a few advantages over traditional ones. First, E-books are more accessible to readers, because the readers just need to log onto the internet and read online. Second, thanks tothe advanced technology, the cost of E-books is much lower, so it takes readers far less money to buy E-books. Last but not the least, reading E-books has developed into part of our daily life, which is particularly appealing to young users, who are the body part of the users of electronic products.

How to improve student's mental health

　　Students' mental health has been playing an increasingly important role in our day-to-day life. Indeed, it is widely accepted that it has gained growing popularity among persons in all walks of life. There is a general discussion today about the issue of disorder in brains.

There is a growing tendency nowadays for parents to send their children to register and attend a great variety of arts courses, such as dancing, calligraphy and musical instruments training, etc. The attitudes of people towards this phenomenon vary from person to person.

Along with the step of globalization, most students’ attention has shifted from Chinese to foreign cultures. Such a shift brought on great worries among people because it is not good for the development of Chinese culture.

There may be several reasons account for why this phenomenon could happen. First and foremost, the globalization greatly stimulated the spread of foreign cultures, which in turn stirred great interest among Chinese students; second, college students are, to some extent, forced to study certain foreign languages so as to pass exams or find good jobs so that they could not spare any time to study Chinese; last but not least, schools have no strict demand on students’ Chinese standard. No doubt, neglecting the study of Chinese will ultimately hold back the development of Chinese culture, and Chinese people may lose their cultural identity in such a competitive world.

In order change this situation and save our identity, due attention should be given to the study of Chinese. To begin with, government should put great efforts on the development of Chinese culture to make more people proud of it; besides, colleges and universities should make exams more balanced, not simply emphasizing the importance of foreign languages; finally, schools should also attach great importance to the study of Chinese, making it a compulsory curriculum. Through these efforts, I think, chances of changing this phenomenon are prosperous.
