英语作文-Should Chinese Celebrate Christmas

The lively and busy Christmas has pasted for few days, still, the happy atmosphere of Christmas is everywhere, especially in Internet, shopping mall and schools. It remains unknown that since when Chinese start celebrating Christmas as foreigners do, together with the emerging of presents and gifts symbolizing auspiciousness, such as peace fruit, namely apples. Meanwhile, opposing voices come along, for example, one college in Xi’an closed school at this year’s Christmas Eve, forbidding students going out and celebrating it; Wenzhou also forbade schools conducting Christmas parties. Therefore, what should we do about it?

    People who support on celebrating Christmas hold on the idea that celebrating Christmas doesn’t mean to worship foreign things and fawn on foreign countries. They think that it is simply the outcome of the intimating exchange of Chinese and Western culture. Similarly, many foreigners now celebrate Spring Festival. They claim that they didn’t forget Chinese traditional culture while celebrating foreign holidays. Besides, Christmas is focus on the festival atmosphere ,it provides a chance for those people who are under great pressure and need to relax and enjoy accompany of family. And the merchants can seize the opportunity for sales promotion. Those who holds different opinion claims that young people nowadays show more interests in foreign holidays than Chinese traditional festivals, which is the indication of worshiping and fawning foreign countries and neglecting traditional culture, causing one day the whole Chinese culture would be ignored. Christmas in workday may distract employees and students from working hard, they both think how to spend their festival. For the merchants , they will hold some sales promotion activities ,which will cause a certain extent waste ,it will be better if we donate that part of money to Hope project ,help more people who is seeking help.

   So ,should we celebrate Christmas?   

    At present, those who celebrate Christmas mainly are young teenagers. The reason why they are willing to celebrate Christmas, apart from the advertising influence of merchants on holidays, is more related with their own life. We celebrate our traditional holidays mainly by visiting relatives and friends, beer and skittles, exchanging gifts, in which case, traditional holidays are nicknamed “Disaster Day”, and gradually lose fun and leave developing space for foreign holidays. Foreign holidays are filled with youth and energy, which is closer to the essence of relax and have fun in holidays, thus it caters for young teenagers’ appetite.  

Personally, given the society environment in which Chinese and western world share a solid and increasing exchange, it’s good to have culture communication. We are proud of that more and more foreigners are begin to celebrate Spring Festival ,in the contrary ,why can’t we accept Chinese people celebrate Christmas? So we should welcome the foreign culture with a open mind. Instead of banning it blindly, we should take effective measures to guide people’s attitude and study how to celebrate it in a Chinese characteristic way so as to change it into a chance that we can relax and enjoy.
