67.Boiling an Egg or a Watch?(煮鸡蛋还是煮手表?)：There was once a famous scientist .he thought only about his work. One day,he was hungry.He wanted to have an egg.Then he took out an egg from the fridge.He wanted to boil the egg for three minutes.But he was thinking  about his work so hard that he put his watch into the hot water. He stood there and waited and the egg was in his hand.Just then,the servant  came into the kitchen.She was very surprised to see the scientist boiling his watch!

68.What a Nightmare!(真是恶梦一场!):Jeff has a terrible day. He misses the train to work.Moreover,he has to wait  a long time for the next train.As a matter of fact,he waits for an hour.To make matters worse,he leaves his briefcase on the train.As a result,he has to go to the police station.Poor Jeff never gets to work that day. What a nightmare!

69.late for Work(上班迟到):Every morning Steve goes to work by train.As he has a long trip,he always buys a newspaper.One Tuesday morning,he turned to the sports page.he wanted to read the report about an important football match the night before.The team of his town won the match.The report was so interesting that he forgot to get off at his station.He didn't know it untill he saw the sea.He got off at the next station,and had to wait a long time for a train to go back.Of course, he arrived very late at the office.His boss was very angry when Steve told him why he was late."Work is more important than football!"the boss shouted.

70.The Color of Skin(皮肤的颜色):Different people have different colors of skin.Some have black skin,some have yellow skin,and some have white skin.Once there was a woman in the USA.Her skin was orange.It was almost the color of orange juice.How did this woman become orange?She ate lots of  oranges,tomatoes and carrots.So her skin was orange.Because she thought she needed more sun,she ate these sunny things.The woman didn't want to be orange.She went to see a doctor.The doctor said,

"Stop eating orange things.Try to eat some green things."The woman did so,and she wasn't orange any more.

71.Buying Tickets (买票)：Tom is a little boy,and he is only seven years old.One day he went to the cinema.It was the first

time for him to do that.He bought a ticket and then went in.But after two or three minutes he came out,and bought a second ticket and went in again.After a few minutes he came out and asked for another ticket.Then the girl in the ticket office asked him,"Why do you buy so many tickets?How many friends do you meet?"Tom answered,"No, I have no friends here.But a big boy always stops me at the door and tears my ticket to pieces."

72.Manners(礼节):In America,just as in Europe,men usually open doors for women,and women always walk ahead of men into a room or a restaurant,unless the men have to walk ahead of the ladies to choose the table,to open the door of a car or do some other things like the above.On the street,men almost always walk or cross the street on the closer side of the ladies to the traffic.But if a man walks with two ladies,he should walk between them.Then if the host or the hostess or both of them come in a door to get their guest for dinner,the guest should sit at the front seat and leave the back seats though there're no people sitting on it.

73.The Meals in England(在英格兰用膳)：In many English homes people eat four meals a day:breakfast,lunch,tea and dinner.people have breakfast at any time from seven to nine in the morning.They eat porridge,egg or bread.English people drink tea or coffee at breakfast.Lunch comes at one o'clock.Tea time is from four to five in the afternoon and dinner is at about half past seven.First they have soup,then they have meat or fish with vegetables.After that they eat some other things,like bananas,apples,or oranges.But not all English people eat like that.Some of them have their dinner in the middle of the day.Their meals are breakfast,dinner,tea and supper and all these meals are very simple.

74.A Dog(一只狗)：A dog gets a nice ,big piece of meat from a butcher.He has it in his mouth happily.He's going home for his lunch.His home is at the other side of the river.There is a bridge over it.He goes along it and has a look at the water.what does he see in the river?He sees a dog looking at him and he has a piece of meat in his mouth, too."His meat must be bigger and nicer than mine,"he thinks greedily."I must get it." So he open his mouth and springs on the dog in the water.Before he knows,he falls into the water.

75.A Clever Dog(一只聪明的狗）：Bingo is a clever dog.Its owner is Mr. Smith. It comes into the room.It wants to sit on the sofa.But Mr.Smith is reading a newspaper on the sofa.Bingo thinks hard.Then it goes to another room and holds mr.Smith's cap in its mouth,and barks to him,"Wow-Wow-Wow!"Mr.Smith thinks the dog wants to go out for a walk.So he puts on his cap and goes out.But the dog doesn't go with him.When Mr.Smith comes back,he sees the dog sleeping on the sofa.

76.1 plus 1 is 1?(1加1等于1吗？)：One day a rich man met Sam on the road.The rich man asked Sam,"I hear you are very clever and nothing is difficult to you.Can you tell me why you are so clever?" Sam answered with a smile,"Oh,I am not clever,instead,you are very silly."the rich man was very angry.Sam said,"Please don't be angry.If you don't believe what I said,now let me ask you a question.If you have a group of sheep,and I give you another group of sheep.Then how many groups of sheep do you have?"The rich man answered"Oh!That's very easy.I have two groups of sheep."Sam smiled and said,"You are wrong,sir.Two groups of sheep put together is still one group.That's so easy!"

77.The Lion and the Hare(狮子和兔子):Once a lion found a hare.He was just going to eat her when a stag ran by."That stag will make me a bigger dinner,"he said.So he let the hare go and ran after the stag.But the stag could run very fast and soon he got right away.When the lion saw that he could not catch the stag,he said,"I will go back for the hare."But when he came to the place where the hare had been,he found that she had gone."I should have had her for my dinner when I first saw her,"said the lion."I wanted too much,but now I have nothing.

78.The Crow and the Fox(乌鸦和狐狸):One day a crow found a piece of meat.She picked it up and held it in her mouth and flew to a tall tree.She was just going to eat the meat when a fox saw her.He came and stood under the tree and said,"How beautiful you are!" The crow was very glad to hear that.Then the fox said again,"I can see your beautiful face,but I can't hear your voice.Why don't you sing a song?"The crow was very happy.She opened her mouth and began to sing.When she opened her mouth,she dropped the meat.The fox picked up the meat at once and went away with it.

80.Asking the Way（问路）：Jack works in an office in a small town.One day his boss said to him,"Jack,I want you to go to London,to an office there,to see Mr.Brown.Here's the adress." Jack went to London.When he walked out of the railway station,he thought,"The office is not far from here.I will find it easily." But after an hour he was still looking for it,so he stopped and asked an old man.The old man said,"Go straight along this street,turn to left at the end,and it's the second building on the right." Jack found it.Ten days later,Jack went to London again.But again he couldn't find the office.So he asked someone the way.It was the same old man!He was very surprised and said,"Are you still looking for that place?"

81.A Put-up Job(一个）：Three people were walking along a street,the first was a big man,then a pretty woman,and the last was an old man.The first two went round a corner.Suddenly the old man saw a piece of paper on the ground.He picked up the paper.It was a five-pound note.A few seconds later,the woman came back.She was crying,"I have lost five pounds."  "Don't cry,"said the old man."Here it is." The woman thanked him and took the note away.After a few seconds,the big man came back.He was looking for something.Suddenly a window of a house opened and a small man cried out,"I saw five pounds fall from your pocket,but that old man gave it to a young woman." The big man was very angry.The old man had to give him five pounds because he was very frightened.When the old man had gone,the young woman and the small man came to the big man to get their reward.

82.One Cigar a Day(一天一支雪茄）：Once an old man went to see a doctor.The doctor examined him and said,"You are not ill.You are too tired.You must have a good rest.Go to a quiet country place for a month,go to bed early,drink milk ,walk a lot,and smoke  just one cigar a day."A month later the man came to the doctor again."How are you?" said the doctor." I am glad to see you again.You look much younger." "Oh! Doctor,I feel quite well now,"said the man."I had a good rest,I went to bed early,I drank a lot of milk,and I walked a lot.Your advice really helped me.But you told me to smoke one cigar a day,and that one cigar almost killed me."

83.Who Is Cleverer?(谁更聪明？)：Jack always thought he was the cleverest boy in the world.One day Jack said to Tom,"You will never fool me, Tom.You are too foolish while I'm so clever." "Wait here at this gate," answered Tom." I will find a way to fool you." Then he came back home.Two hours later,Betty came along"Why are you standing here,Jack?"she asked Jack."I am waiting for Tom",answered Jack."He is going to try to fool me." "Tom has gone home,"said Betty."You have already been fooled."Since then,Jack never said he was the cleverest boy in the world.

84.A Lion and Four Bulls(一只狮子和四只公牛）：There is a lion in the forest.Every day he goes out to look for food.The small animals in the forest are all afraid of him.Near the forest there are four bulls.They are good friends,and often go out  together.The lion tries many times to catch them, but can't do so.Every time he comes near,the four bulls stand together to fight him,so he can do nothing to them.One day,the bulls have a quarrel.After that each of them goes his own way.When the lion sees that,he is happy.He catches one bull and eats him up.Then he catches another.One by one he catches all the four bulls and eats them.

85.Ants(蚂蚁）:There are many kinds of ants in America.One kind is very strong.People are afraid of it,and animals are afraid of it ,too.These ants move in large groups.They eat all the animals on their way.They can kill and eat elephants,and they can eat wood houses.Sometimes even people are killed by them.When the ants come near,people leave their homes.But people are sometimes glad after the ants pass through,because they can see no insects or snakes.

86.An Animal Sports Meeting(一场动物运动会):One day some animals held a sports meeting.A dog,a black and white cat,a monkey and a fat pig were in the 100-meter race.An elephant stood by the starting line.The four runners got ready to run."Ready?Go!" the elephant shouted.At first the monkey was in front.The dog was not far behind him.And the cat was a little faster than the fat pig.But when the monkey was passing by a pear tree,he stopped.He quickly climbed up the tree and picked some pears to eat,and after that he fell asleep in the tree.At last the dog won the race,and the fat pig was third in it.

90.Antarctica(南极洲):When I turned on the TV yesterday,I happened to see my favorite programme"Man and Nature".And yesterday's programme introduced Antarctica. Antarctica ,which is the coldest continent in the world,lies in the extreme south of the Earth.It has an area of about 14 million square kilometers.It is covered with cold thick ice and deep snow all year round.But it is a very rich continent.It has many well-known animals such as penguins,whales and it is rich in mineral resources including iron and coal.There are no people always living there.Up to now only some scientists went there to do research.

94.Poor Boys(可怜的男孩)：Two little boys come to a new city.Their names are Peter and Tom.They are brothers.Of course they live with their parents.Their family is very rich.They have a driver and a lot of servants.Peter and Tom are going to a new school.On the first day their parents say to them,"Peter and Tom,you must be modest at your new school.Don't say we are rich."And they say,"Yes,Mum,Dad." So they go to school.They see their new teacher.And they sit down with other children.The teacher says,"Hello,children.The first exercise today is a composition.The subject of the composition is 'My Family'." So all the children write a composition.This is Peter's composition."My name is Peter.My family is very poor.Both my father and my mother are very poor.Our driver is very poor and all the other servants are very poor..."

95.A Museum In London(一个在伦敦的博物馆）：One day, London had its hottest day, and the temperature rose to 32'C. All  the windows in the museum were opened,but it was still very hot.At 9:00 pm the last visitors left,and the windows and doors   were closed.At ten o'clock it was dark and the alarms were turned on.At 4:00 o'clock the next morning,just as it was getting light,the alarms went off! The police came to the museum at once.They checked the doors and windows,but they were still closed.Carefully they went into the room where the alarm was ringing.A small bird was trying to fly through the window! It had come into the museum in the evening and had gone to sleep when the lights were turned off.In the early morning,at first light it had woken up and had tried to escape.

96.Improving Reading Skills （提高阅读技巧）：I'm not very good at reading.I got poor marks in the reading comprehension test at the end of last year.I read too slowly and thought about every word.Sometimes I understand  all of the words in a text,but I don't understand what the text is about.My teacher said I should look at a text quickly first to see what it is about and then ask myself questions about it.Then I should read the text to answer the questions.This would help me to think about what the writer was trying to communicate.I will try that.I'd like to learn a lot of new words too,so I'm going to read a lot.Tony has a new Harry Potter book.I'll borrow it from him and read it.School starts tomorrow.I'll write a few sentences about how to improve my reading skills.

100.Helping Hands（帮手）：Jane's husband ,Jack, is in prison.One day,Jane writes a lettr to Jack.She says she wants to plant vegetables in the garden, but the garden is full of grass.Jack writes a letter to Jane.He tells Jane not to dig up the garden because he hides a lot of money in the garden.The police from the prison read the letter.They go to Jack's house and dig up the garden,but find nothing.Several weeks later,Jack tells Jane to plant vegetables.
