We always knew our daughter Kendall was going to be a performer of some sort. She entertained people in our small town by putting on shows when she was only three or four. She sang like a little angel

Art is very important to kids. Here are some reasons:

Art helps children with their physical development. For example, when kids work with play dough(R K ) they can lean to better control their fingers. Drawing helps develop hand and finger muscles that are needed to properly hold and use a pencil.

London 's Kew Gardens reopens its Temperate House, the world 's largest Victorian glasshouse.

For the first time in its history, the Grade I-listed structure was restored to bare metal and modernized. More than 5, 280 liters of paint was used, enough to cover four football fields, an 15, 000 panes of glass was replaced. The house opened to the public on Saturday, May 5.

The large greenhouse is now home to an arranged collection of different plants from areas of temperate( 温带的 )climates around the world - areas sometimes described as the Goldilocks zone of the planet, where plants are safe from coldness.

These include some of the rarest(稀有的) and most threatened species(物种)，for which the botanic(植物的) garden is a final shelter(避护所). Among the more than1，00 different species of temperate plants is the extremely rare South African cycad Encephalartos woodji, a plant that has disappeared from the wild and is now found in botanic gardens and private collections.

This tree has been named "the loneliest plant in the world ", because only male plants remain -each a clone of the specimen at Kew, which was collected in the middle of the 19th century. Some plants contain both male and female parts, but this species requires a female to produce seeds.

Lead gardener Scott Taylor, who is overseeing the Temperate House collection stressed the importance of having an insurance population of one of the worlds most endangered plant.

“We have an important job to keep all of these things going, "Mr. Taylor said. "For some plants, they are down to a few in the wild -a wildfire, an earthquake, and they`re gone”

Playing video games for hours on end may prepare your child to become a laparoscopic(腹腔镜检査的) doctor one day， a new study has shown. Reorganization of the brain＇s cortical(皮质的，皮层的) network in young men with experience of playing video games gives them an advantage not only in playing the games but also in performing other tasks requiring visuomotor (视觉眼肌运动)skills. Researchers from the Centre for Vision Research at York University in Canada compared a group of 13 young men in their twenties, who had played video games at least four hours a week for the past three years, to a group of 13 young men without that experience. The subjects were placed in a functional magnetic resonance imaging(FMRI) machine and asked to complete a series of increasingly difficult visuomotor tasks, such as using a joystick or looking one way while reaching another way.

By using high resolution brain imaging(MRI), we were able to actually measure which brain areas were activated at a given time during the experiment, " said Lauren Sergio, associate professor. "We tested how the skills learned from video game experience can transfer over to new tasks, rather than just looking at brain activity while the subject plays a video 

The finding that using visuomotor skills can reorganize how the brain works offers hope for future research into the problems experienced by Azheimer's patients, who struggle to complete the simplest visuomotor tasks

Lead author Joshua Granek added that, in future, it would be interesting to study if the brain pattern changes are affected by the type of video games a player has used and the actual total number of hours he has played, and to study female video gamers, whose brain patterns in earlier studies were different from those of males.
