OSHA HAZARDS
(29 CFR 1910.1200) :
OSHA PEL ACGIH TWA
Antimony trioxide 0.5mg/m (As Sb)m³ 0.5mg/m³(As Sb)
ADDITIVES : Light-stabiliser, heat-stabiliser, lubricant,
nuclear-agent, etc. are added, if necessary. These
additives are not hazardous by OSHA‘s Hazard
Communication Standards.EMERGENCY OVERVIEW :
- Skin contact of molten resin causes thermal burn.
- Inhalation of gas from molten resin causes nausea.
- Gas generated during drying and melting causes eye and skin irritation.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:
EYE : Contact with molten resin causes thermal burn.
SKIN : Contact with molten resin causes thermal burn.
INHALATION : Inhalation of gas from molten resin may cause
nausea.
INGESTION : In antimony trioxide, the oral LD50 in rats is over
20g/kg. Swallowing may cause injury.
CARCINOGENICITY : Antimony trioxide is listed by IARC 2B possibly
carcinogenic to humans.
4.FIRST-AID MEASURES
EYE CONTACT : If the material is in a molten state, immediately cool and wash with clean water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if worn, unless they have
adhered to eyes, and seek medical attention.
SKIN CONTACT: If the material is in a molten state, cool with clean water immediately. Do not forcibly remove any solidified resin stuck to the skin, but continue cooling until it
becomes readily removable. Get medical attention for thermal burn. INHALATION : If inhalation of gas from molten resin causes nausea, remove the individual to fresh air and keep him at rest for recovery. If he does not recover, seek medical
attention.
INGESTION : Induce vomiting only if the victim is conscious. In case of heavy ingestion, seek medical attention.
5.FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
EXTINGUISHING METHOD AND SPECIFIC HAZARDS:
- Extinguishing with water is the preferred method.
- Hazardous gases (CO2,CO, a trace of HCN,NH3,halide etc. ) may be produced during a fire.
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water, foam, powder.
6.ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURESdisposed of properly. (Method of disposal must be in compliance with the section 14. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS below. )
7.HANDLING AND STORAGE
HANDLING:
-Take care so as not to inhale gas during processing of the material.
-Do not hold the material at high temperatures over an extended time.
STORAGE :
-Store the material away from heat and ignition sources.
8.EXPOSURE CONTROL / PERSONAL PROTECTION
EXPOSURE LIMITS : Not establish for product as whole. Refer to Section 2
for a hazardous component.
TLVS ACGIH (1993-1994) : Nuisance Dust 10mg/m³
ENGINEERING MEASURE : In cases where possibilities of dust formation,
gas generation, or vapor emission exist, it is desirable to
provide local ventilation.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT :
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION : Wear as needed.
EYE PROTECTION : Wear as needed.
HAND PROTECTION : Wear as needed.
SKIN PROTECTION : Wear as needed.
