1.These days people pay more attention to artists and give less imp to science and technology. Do you agree or disagree with this view?

Art plays an increasingly indispensable role in contemporary society. Therefore, there is a trend to pay more attention to artists rather than scientists. Personally, I find this view is ill-founded.

Obviously, artists are important in society for some reasons. Firstly, they bring our city beauty. Specifically, the exterior and interior décor of high-rise buildings are gorgeous due to the design of make our recreation activities more diverse. By attending concerts and visiting oil-painting exhibitions, our leisure time can be more interesting thanks to the masterpieces from artists. Although, art is indispensable o our leisure activities, our daily life is based on all kinds of technology discovered by scientists. Our daily life becomes more convenient due to the efforts of scientists. We cannot live without cars and buses, or we may waste time. We cannot also live without computers and the internet, unless we do not make any friends and communicate with others. Besides, the invention of cell phones, cinemas and electronic appliances, etc. all make out life easy. 

Moreover, scientists car bring awards to our nation. Yang zhen ning, who won the Nobel Prize for physics in the 1950s is the suppertime example. More importantly, acceleration of our country’s development depends on scientists, not artists. It is much easier for national leaders to communicate with each other because of the invention of flight.

The new discoveries in chemistry or physics field can improve one country’s status. For example, the discovery of asp ricin was spread all over the world and it was changed people’s life as well as has improved the Australian status in the world.

All in all, personally, I believe that technology plays a domestic role in society. Therefore, more attention is supposed to be paid on science & technology.

The inspiring and magical story of college drop-outs becoming billionaires has led to contentious argument as to whether college education is essential for success in life. In this essay, I will evaluate both sides of the issue before making any judgment of my own.

Because of its essential role in both the academic and mental development of the college students, university education can always be a key to success. To start with, attending lectures given by professors who are always experts in certain fields and carrying out independent or cooperative researches enable students in college to gain systematic and in-depth knowledge about the subject they are engaged in, something which can be conveniently and readily transferred to practice in their future career. A majority of CEOs, for instance, hold a college degree in management while few prestigious economic analysts would be seen without an academic background in economy. Furthermore, colorful activities universities can offer, ranging from leagues, clubs, students’ associations to internships and competitions in various fields greatly aid their students in acquiring socials skills necessary for future success, whether they are interpersonal and cooperative skills or the ability to lead and coordinate others. To illustrate, political figures in USA such as Bill Clinton were always chairmen of the students’ Union back in the college.

On the other hand, college education is certainly not the only determinant for future success, as personality also plays a part in it. To be specific, the key elements regarding personality under the circumstances include confidence, persistence, daring as well as empathy. Even if a person has not acquired any university degree, there is still possibility that he can succeed as long as he has belief that he can make a difference, never give us in adverse situations, dared to risk all his fortune in a newly- developed industry without knowing for sure it will be profitable or not and is eloquent and amiable enough to persuade others to do business with him. Bill Gates is a perfect example for this.

In conclusion, though in most cases university education is crucial for future career success, it is not always a definite requirement to be met in order to achieve success, as the latter is also determined by many other factors. Consequently, the perfect candidate for career success should be one who can combine both, a university degree plus suitable personality.

3.some people think the cheap air flight gives ordinary people more freedom. However, others think the cheap air flight should be banned because it pollutes the air and brings may other problems. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Once, the air flight is extremely expensive so that few people can afford it. Recently, the price of flight has become cheaper, and as for whether the ordinary people should have the access to the cheap air flight or not, I hold a positive view.

That some people assert the view that cheap air flight lead to the great consumption of nature resources makes sense to some extents. The lower the price of flight is, the increasing demand of need there will exist. Probably, it will result in more consumption of the treasure resources, such as fuel and oil. Moreover, it will cause air pollution as well. A flight may release a large quantity of wasted air, regardless of how much distance it will fly, and the increasing frequency of flight might lead to air pollution directly.

However, the contribution of the low price travel cannot be denied. To begin with, the low-cost flight gives public more access and greater convenience to travel the world, which can definitely save both time and money of the tourists, and will promote the development of tourism. Also, it will create more job opportunities to the citizens and maintain the stability of the society. As for the pollution that the low- cost flight might bring about, a car-journey is no more fuel-efficient and environment- friendly than a flight. Additionally, a plane can hold far more passages than a car do.

Therefore, I tend to agree that the cheap air flight has many advantages in many ways despite the pollution it might cause. Both individuals and the whole society can benefit from it.

4. as most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual wellbeing. What factors contribute to job satisfaction? How realistic is the expectation of job satisfaction for all workers?

In modern society, working plays a vital role in adulthood. People regard job satisfaction as an essential pattern of individual wellbeing. In this essay, I will analyze the elements which consist job satisfaction and the corresponding possibility.

First of all, salary is a major factor of job satisfaction. To some extent, the purpose of working is to earn money for living. For example, so many people appreciate the CEO in terms of nice salary. If we are well paid, we would not worry about expenditure, leading to an improvement of life quality. Moreover, leisure time is also an indicator. Some jobs are highly competed that need extra work in weekend, especially in economic industry. Loads of workers cannot go home until 21 or 22 o’clock. This phenomenon causes a big problem in health as these workers could not get enough rest. Thirdly, the sense of achievement effects job satisfaction a lot. More specifically, the praises from supervisors or the successes of our projects will encourage us to work harder. Such achievements let us feel important in our own job.

However, a majority of people have to lower expectation when they get jobs. In my country, there are more than 13 hundred million people. Fierce competition makes our expectations impossible to meet. Then, the reality is huge work but poor paid. Only few excellent individuals can get satisfied jobs.

Overall, there are three major elements have effect on job satisfaction, salary, holiday as well as the sense of achievement. Nevertheless, few people are satisfied with their jobs. In my opinion, the government and the companies are responsible for this. An alteration is in need. 

5. some people think the best way of reducing crime is to give longer prison sentences. Others, however, think there are other better ways to reduce crime. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

How to deal with criminals is important social problem to be discussed. In general, government would restraint the liberty of criminals as a mean of punishment. However, it is by no means the only method to cope with this social problem, therefore, education and job training should be taken into consideration as a feasible proposal.

It is true that criminals deserve to be sentenced to jail term. Jail term, the main punitive measure in contemporary society, forces the offenders to think about their unlawful behaviors, but it also safeguards the victims’ interests and the sanctity of the law. In addition, keeping the offenders in prison may help to prevent crimes from happening. In other words, if the penalties for crimes were not harsh enough, a high rate of criminals repeating their unlawful behaviors is possible.

However, it cannot be ignored that the potential harm caused by jail terms are not unfounded. It is true that severe penalty might ruin offenders’ future, both physically and psychologically. What is needed, therefore, is a method that helps criminals recover and function better in society. It can be suggested that a more specific and scientific punishment method should be established to reform criminals by providing them education and job training.

In terms of that, it seems rehabilitation programs, which include education and job training, are more feasible. Rehabilitation equips criminals with the capacity to make a living, which will reduce their opportunity of committing a crime again. In fact, education and job training offer criminals more vocation options, criminals may well lead productive lives after the program finishes. Undoubtedly, it is unfair that criminals receive tax-funded education and training. however, it is in everybody’s interest to re-introduce these people back into social life.

It can be concluded that a certain degree of restriction of criminals’ liberty is an efficient method to change them. However, in order to make sure that they can be changed in a positive method, a term in prison is not necessarily the only right method. In contrast, rehabilitation programs are feasible since criminals can learn about the significance of socially acceptable behavior.

6.detailed description of crime on newspapers and TV can have bad consequences on society, so this kind of information should be restricted on media. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 

Detective and reasoning programs have never lost popularity among people since they are not only exciting but also mysterious. However, some people claim that detailed description of crimes on newspaper and TV can affect the society adversely, as a result, they should be restricted on media. I could not agree more with this statement. 

Admittedly, detailed description of crime on mass media is beneficial for public to get a better understand of crime and law. Being shown of all kinds of crimes and means on screens, people can have knowledge of how criminals commit crimes and what kinds of people are usually aimed at. In this way, citizens, especially those single women and underage children, can remind themselves and take actions to protect from being robbed or stolen. On the other hand, apart from the function of vigilance, people can also benefit from reports of crime and violence since they can learn more about the law. Having seen nearly all kinds of illegal behaviors from various media, the public can acquire a better ability in distinguishing right from wrong, virtue from immorality and thus take responsibility of their own behaviors.

Notwithstanding all these merits mentioned above, the disadvantages of showing detailed description of crimes still outweigh its advantages. To begin with, although it acts as a positive role in disseminating the knowledge of crime and law, it also provides the possibility to teach those potential criminals how to commit a crime and then escape from punishment. In order to cater to the audiences’ desire for excitement and entertainment, a majority of programs provide detailed description of crime and violence to the public, which will definitely leads to bad consequences on society. What is more, violence and crime on mass media will affect youngsters adversely. Impulsive and easily influenced, teenagers are apt to go astray if they are overwhelmed with this kind of programs all the day. More alarmingly, at present, some crimes and criminals are glorified by directors who always want to capture eyes of the public and obtain larger profits. Criminals are often portrayed as highly capable and cool guys on the wrong side of the law. Some of them even excite admiration from the young. No wonder the rate of juvenile delinquency is growing rapidly in the past decades.

Consequently, strict censorship should be implemented regarding the contents of television programs and other forms of media. Also, given the fact that a growing number of media exaggerate and make up the truth of crime, I suggest the significant events should only be reported by government and mainstream media.
