Teaching Procedures:
Step1: Lead-in
Let the Ss name some endangered animals in China in English.( Such as Tibetan antelope, panda, South China tiger, Milu deer and golden monkey …)
Ask : 1. Is it easy to see them now?
2. What problems are they facing?
3. Why are they in danger of disappearing?
Today let’s learn a story How Daisy learned to help wildlife.
Step2: Skimming
Skim the passage on Page 26 and answer the following questions.
◆Who is the character of the story?
◆How did she travel?
◆Which places did she travel to?
◆What animals did she visit?
Step3: Fast reading
Task: 1)Read the passage silently again, and try to finish the True or False exercises .
(1) Daisy saw an antelope in Tibet. (T)

Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions.
Paragraph 1
1. How did the antelope feel? Sad.
2. Who is hunting and killing the Tibetan antelopes? People.
3. Why are people hunting and killing the Tibetan antelopes?
In order to get the wool which is used to make sweaters.
Paragraph 2
1. How did the elephant feel?
The elephant felt excited.
2.How did life improve for the animals?
Past: Farmers used to hunt them for destroying their farms.
Now: The elephants are no longer killed by the farmers for that.
3.How did life improve for the farmers in Zimbabwe?
The government helped and farmers make money from tourism.
Paragraph 3&4
1.Why does the monkey rub itself?
Because this protects it from mosquitoes.
2.Why is the thick rainforest important for animals?
Because different kinds of animals can live together.
Step5: Retelling
Cloze Text Listen to the tape, then accomplish the cloze text which is about the general idea of the passage.
One day Daisy went to see the animals that gave fur to make her sweater on a flying carpet. It flew away to Tibet in China first, where she saw an antelope.The antelope told her that they were killed for the wool that was taken from their stomaches.
Then the carpet flew away to Zimbabwe, where Daisy saw an elephant. The elephant said they were endangered in Zimbabwe. Farmers used to hunt them without mercy. Now they allowed tourists to hunt only a certain number of animals if they paid the farmers. The carpet rose again and almost at once they were in a thick rainforest.
A monkey was rubbing a millipede insect which contains a powerful drug over his body because it could protect him from mosquitoes. So Daisy decided to produce this new drug with the help of the WWF. The carpet rose and flew home.
Step6: Discussion:
Ss discusss in groups of four and make up a dialogue about wildlife protection,then ask 2 or 3 groups to report.
These questions will help you:
1.What kind of endangered animals are you most concerned about?
2.Why are they dying out?
3.What should we do to protect them?
4.What can we do to help the endangered animals?
Step7: Homework
1. Read the text and underline the useful words and expressions and difficult sentences.
2. Surf the Internet to know more about the wildlife protection.
