The qualities of a good English teacher in middle

Abstract: as the 21st century has been on its way, which is an age when comprehensive national power competes with high quality talents, the global economy and trade are developing in a high speed. Therefore, English, as a world language, has becoming more and more popular and important all over the world. there is no exception in china, more and more civilians are learning English as an important foreign language, and English as a subject in the school has been put in so much energy, every student, like or dislike, should accept English as an major subject and study hard to get a high mark. As an English teacher in middle school, I think to be a teacher is a hard work because you can’t stop learning and trying out the new teaching ideas and methods. In my article, I talk about some experience of being a good teacher, according to my teaching career. 

1.  Good personalities

  As a good teacher, one should have good personalities.

1.1 Be confident.kind,and helpful

As a good teacher, one should be confident, kind and helpful. This is a basic element of being a good teacher. Only a confident teacher can bring confidence to his students. He will influence the students by his behaviors. When students meet difficulties in study and life, he should be kind enough to help them. He should see the students’ latent ability and encourage them to make progress. 

1.2 Respect and understand the students

Being a good teacher, one should respect and understand all the students. Understanding how children think and learn is the key to undertake primary education. You need to care for “the whole child” instead of just caring for the language that you are teaching . You need to help children to develop in an round way. You need to guide them in mastering learning how to learn ,help them to develop the ability of using imaginations and learning to solve problems . you  also need to teach them to understand others and respect others.

1.3 Care for the students

  That is to say, thinking about things in the role of the studentsand caring for them as their parents not only on their study but also their daily lives. Then you will find that you are becoming best friends and the relationship becomes hamonious.

1.4 Be a good citizen

  a good teacher should have moral quality, that is to say, a good teacher should be a model and set a good example to his students and others. A good teacher will be a good citizen, for example, complying with the laws of our country and the rules of the school, offering seats on the bus, helping others, and so on. For a good teacher the most important moral is to love students and to love the course of teaching. As long as he has the innate love for his profession, he may has enormous zest for his students, and become an excellent teacher.

2  Full of knowledge

It is a very important quality of a primary school English teacher ,that is to say ,you should be competent in English and being an erudite.

2.1 Full of professional knowledge

It means you must have good pronunciation and intonation, can communicate with the language in oral and written forms and can understand some basic English gramma. It’s a basic element of being a good English teacher. You should do well in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English. A good pronunciation of English is especially important to an English teacher. Many students can’t pronounce English accurately because their teacher has a poor pronunciation. And it’s very hard for them to rectify their pronunciation later. It’s necessary to make sure that what the teachers teach is correct. And only a teacher has enough knowledge about English can he teach the students properly. 

2.2 Being an erudite

  It means that you should not only full of professional kowledge but also a lot of other aspects of kowledge. Reading a lot and enhance your personal level of kowledge and abilities. Accumulating the kowledge and imformation whenever you have a chance., try to be a person full of learning awareness. Researching the teaching materials well, making out and regulating the teaching programs timely. We are in an information age, and the knowledge is changing quickly. If a teacher doesn’t charge himself from time to time, his theory may be out of date, and he may not keep the pace with development of our society. At present, a teacher is required not only to know how to teach, but also to do research in his field. So, he should update his theory and know the newest one in the world. 

3  Good teaching skills

Techniques and methods for teaching English to children are necessary skills for school English teacher. 

3.1 Using different teaching skills

Being  school teacher, you need to be good at using different teaching techniques. For example: having the ability to sing and act, good at telling stories and acting out in dramas. Even at drawing and dancing. Also you need to be able to organize games and activities. But after of all, the best way of working depends not only on what is important in the curriculum but also upon your strength , your personality  your experience, your beliefs and the situation in which you work.。As computer is very useful in teaching, one should have skills in making power points, so that it can make the class more interesting.

3.2 Organizing English class teaching actively and effectively.

  Being a good English teacher, one should have a deep research of the teaching materials and the students＇inner world. Then according these, he makes out a proper program about the class arrangement of building a actively and hamonious class atmosphere. He should know how to organize a lesson and how to let students learn English efficiently and so on.

4 Good communicating skills

Teaching and learning cannot been seperated, a good teacher should build a hamonious relationship with the students, which means that he should be full of communicating skills.

4.1 Thinking transposed with the students

  As a teacher, we all had ever been a student, we know that the students have totally different feelings from the teacher. What we should do is trying to think about things at their positions, then we can deal with a lot of things easily and properly. We should be one of them, know about their world and get the classroom atmospheres more familiar to them. We teachers should be self-confident and have warm relationships with our students.

It is certain that it’s not easy to be a good English teacher. These points are what I think the most important elements. Only one works hard to strive for the goal can he be a good English teacher. 

4.2 love your students and try to be one of them 

  Love is equivalent to shape a good student and rejection is a kind of destruction. As a teacher, we should believe that love is the best method od communication. If we take them as our friends, they would consider us to be theirs either. Caring for not only their study but also their daily lives.

  To be an English teacher is easy, but to be a good English teacher is challenge and needs a long period to put into practise. It is our unshrinkable responsibility to make the students growing and improved healthly and quickly, the students＇future is also our country＇future, we teachers should consider our job as a both challenge and glocious responsibility,improving ourselves and teaching quality as well.
