The Celebration of Western Festivals

Christmas Day is coming after a few days. These days, many businessmen decorate their stores with some christmas trees and some pictures of Santa Claus to create the atmosphere of Christmas Day, and this is also the consequence of many Chinese people celebrate Christmas Day.

So, why so many Chinese people celebrate Christmas Day? Why so many Chinese people celebrate western festivals? For my part, on the one hand, the Chinese reform and open policies is the most important reason for this phenomena. Chinese people have more chances to know something about foreign countries, such as the culture and the custom. On the other hand, the expansion of west culture is another important reasom. With the deepen of globalization, westerners bring varietise of their culture forms to Chinese people to infiltrate all aspects of our daily life mostly.

As this, western customs maybe form a huge wave to attack our traditional custom. As young generation, they always want to do something special and want to catch the trend of the world. So, celebrating western festivals become their choice. With the high emotions about this, the conception of our own traditional festivals may fade from their memory gradually.

In my opinion, celebrating western festivals in our country also have some benefits, however, it needs depend on what things the festival brings to us. Take Thanksgiving Day for instance, it is a great chance to express our gratitude to our parents and other people who help us a lot. So, we should look upon western festival culture critically and absord its merits.
