My Favorite Holiday

THERE ARE MANY TRADITIONAL HOLIDAYS IN CHINA, SUCH AS NEW YEAR, LATERN FESTIVAL, MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL AND SO ON. When asked about their favorite holidays, different people like different holidays. As for me, which I love most is the Dragon Boat Festival. 

The Dragon Boat Festival， also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar.，we can do a host of meaningful and happy things on this day. First, my mother would let my sister and I wear necklaces or bracelets made of red, yellow, blue, white and black threads when we get up in the morning. It’s very beautiful, and I like it very much. Then, my family would work together to make our lunch—Zongzi. In general, the Zongzi is made to be a pyramid-shaped dumpling, made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo leaves. Furthermore, we stuff Zongzi with pork, ham, chestnuts, pineapple and other ingredients. It is very delicious and everyone in our home loves it very much. And making Zongzi not only strengthens the friendship between us, but also improves our skills in making Zongzi. Besides, as a Chinese people, we all know that the festival memorizes the Chinese Poet Quyuan, who committed suicide by drowning himself in a river. So after we had our delicious meal, my father, my mother, my sister and I would bring some food we made to the river and throw the food into river to feed the fish so that they would not eat Qu’s body. What a funny thing it is. Next, we would go to see the dragon boat races. The dragon boat is shaped like a dragon, and is brightly painted, which is almost 20 to 40 meters long. Boatmen row in the boat with the drumbeats, and the captain standing in the bow of the boat weaves a small flag to help coordinate the rowing. And we are all  standing around the river to cheer the boatmen with waving colorful flags and shouting“come on”. What a spectacular scene.

That’s why I love Dragon Boat Festival. Overall，the Dragon Boat Festival is very interesting. Seeing the above exciting things, I believe , you will like Dragon Boat Festival, too.
