导读2.During World War II.the U.S.military entrusted Dr.J.Presper Eckert and his student.John Mauchly.from the University of Pennsylvania.to design a machine named ENIAC.an electronic computer。

1. On February 14, 1946, the world's first computer, ENIAC, was officially put to work at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.
2. During World War II, the U.S. military entrusted Dr. J. Presper Eckert and his student, John Mauchly, from the University of Pennsylvania, to design a machine named ENIAC, an electronic computer.
3. The primary purpose of ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was to assist with ballistic calculations for artillery shells in the military field.
4. The machine was equipped with over 18,800 vacuum tubes, occupying an area of 50 feet in length and 30 feet in width, and weighed about 30 tons. Its size was equivalent to half a classroom, and it consumed a significant amount of electricity.
5. ENIAC had remarkable computing power, capable of performing 5,000 addition operations per second, and it continued to function for nine years.
6. Due to the fragile nature of vacuum tubes, they often needed to be replaced every 15 minutes, which caused significant inconvenience in operation.
7. The high failure rate of vacuum tubes was jokingly referred to as the machine's biggest challenge; a continuous five days of trouble-free operation were considered a success.
8. The two inventors of ENIAC were Dr. Моrchleа and John Mauchly, who made pioneering contributions to the field of computers.
