The importance of history all around the world is there for all can see. However, the most significant category is the war. On this point, some people consider Wars are miserable; they simply give destructive forces in the course of social development. Others figure out that wars are useful; they can bring about the advancements in other aspects. As a popular saying goes: “Every coin has two sides.” As far as I’m concerned, wars as well. Wars are not simply destructive forces in the course of social development; they led to the advancements in other aspects as well.
More specifically, took British wars for instance. First of all, talk about the British war on the social development of destruction.
As is known to all, the longest war around the world is The Hundred Years’ war of English. The war was directly caused by the dispute over succession to the French throne. When Edward III ruled England, the French king died without a legitimate successor. Edward claimed that he should succeed to the French throne because of his mother’s privilege. Nevertheless, the French nobles denied. Consequently, Edward III landed in Normandy with an English army in 1337. The Hundred Years’ War broke out.
At first, the English troops were on the offensive and even captured Paris and a French king. As time passed by, guns and gunpowder were used in the war. In addition, many French peasants and heroes joined in the war. Gradually, the war ended in failure of the English with their bows and arrows in 1453.
The hundred years' war on England and the French people is a disaster, and the two were popular with war sand diseases at that time, the most serious is The Black Death. People suffered universal financial losses and led a miserable life. France as war for land everywhere was destroyed, people become destitute and homeless. Moreover, England had gained nothing, loss of almost all French territory.
Then, on the other hand, wars have active influence. Similarly, take The Hundred Years’ War. The Hundred Years’ War deprived the English king of his possession on the Continent. After losing their territory on the continent, the ruling Normans began to regard English as their home. By the end of 14th century, the English language was reestablished as the official language. The war also sped up the decline of feudalism in England. Feudalist separation was becoming impossible and this was to the advantage of commercial development. It also pushed the growing bourgeoisie onto a higher rung of social ladder in England.
Summing up, judging from all the evidence offered, we can safely draw the conclusion that Wars are not simply destructive forces in the course of social development. Wars brought about the advancements in other aspects as well.
