      Last Wednesday afternoon,  an activity on the theme of “how to become a popular student” was held for the students of Senior Three in the school library.  After  analyzing some examples, the students had a discussion in groups and some teachers were invited to give their comments.  

Finally,  we came to a conclusion that a student should be well-behaved and study hard to become popular.  What’s more,  popular students are supposed to be considerate and polite and get along well with others as well.  As a result,  we have learned more about ourselves and everyone is determined to be a popular student.

    [总述]Today is the World Aids Day， so our school organized an activity called “Take care of our lives, and join hand in hand with Aids children”. 

[过程] At 8:30 am,  we volunteers gathered at the school gate and started our bike trip, which took us about one hour and a half.  Soon after  we got to the Red Cross Hospital, where most Aids children are staying, we began to have close chats with them to see how their life is going,  and then  we danced happily together.  Having got  to know them so well, we presented our gifts, took lots of photos and ate lunch together  before  we came back. 

[感受]I feel very relieved to see the Aids children so happy when they are taken good care of and not ignored.

     A latest survey shows that the health of Chinese youngsters has greatly declined.  Many Chinese students are facing a number of physical problems,  such as  obesity, and short-sightedness, etc. 

Under the current educational system, marks seem to mean everything to students so students have to spend most of their time doing endless homework in order to pass the college entrance examinations. As a result,  they do not sleep or exercise enough.

To improve students’ health， we should reform the current educational system.  Besides,  we call for less homework, thus leaving students more time to sleep and take exercise.

       Recently， my classmates and I made a survey about the migrant schools in our city. Problems do exist.

Top Meal of the Day

        A recent study shows that 50% of the school kids in Guangzhou do not have breakfast.  Some students who stay up late studying choose to skip breakfast  so that  they can have a few extra minutes in bed.  Besides,  some schoolgirls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast.  

As a result,  these students tend to feel sleepy all day and have bad memories, so  it is hard for them to get high marks in all kinds of tests. 

     In fact,  the morning meal plays an important part  because  it can provide 30 percent of the whole day’s energy. For a creative mind and better judgment， school kids should start their day with a regular breakfast

      We have had a class meeting today on whether we should give money to beggars and we have different opinions 

      Some believe that we should give money to those who are really in need. Among these beggars are the elderly， drop-outs and the disabled, who can hardly make a living due to old age， poverty or disability. Many more students, however,  think we shouldn’t give them money because most beggars are begging for easy money.  Besides,  to give money would encourage them to be lazy  even if  they have the ability to work.

    In general, we should help the people of the disadvantaged groups, but we should remain sensible when giving them money.

        I’m a student in Senior Three. We have made a survey —“Who do you turn to when in trouble?” Here are the results.  

       According to our survey， about half of the students will go to their classmates or friends when in trouble. As they’re of the same age， they have a lot in common and understand each other easily. 

A quarter of students will tell their teachers or parents about their troubles and ask them for help, holding that teachers and parents are trustworthy and have rich experience. Those who prefer to seek help from society account for about one fifth， and they believe that society is more expert at handling their problems. Only ten percent of the students prefer to solve their problems all by themselves as they are reluctant to communicate with others.

      Recently, the Department of Education has carried out a survey on how middle school students spend their pocket money. 

    32% of the students would like to save it in the bank to cultivate a good habit of saving money. Four in ten students feel like buying some books on science or arts, which brings them more knowledge.

      A recent survey shows that in today’s society, Chinese young people’s life goals have become more diverse than before. When young people are asked what they will struggle for,  more than half of the respondents choose to earn enough money to buy a house and a car for themselves. 

About 44% describe their life goal as improving their life quality or to be a rich person while 23.9% of the respondents are simply satisfied to have a good job. As for how to achieve their life goals， more than 70% prefer to realize their dreams by working hard. The survey shows that people’s life goals have become more practical

     Born into a wealthy family on December 11,1911,Zhejiang Province, Qian Xuesen was so  clever that he was regarded as a “super talented” boy in his childhood. Having graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1934, he went to America for further study and gained his doctor’s degree in the Science of Astronomy. 

Since he returned to China, he has devoted all his life to China’s AnA industry, taking part in the design and research of rockets and missiles as well as opening a new era of China’s Astronomy industry. 

     It’s for his outstanding achievements that Qian Xuesen is honoured as “ Father of China’s Astronomy” and “King of Rockets”. Qian Xuesen, a pioneer of China’s Astronomy industry, passed away in November, 2009 in Beijing.
