coaxial, or fiber optic. LANs often use a bus to form organization. In a LAN, people can share different equipments, which lowers the cost of equipments. LAN may be connected to other LANs or larger networks by using a network gateway. With the gateway, one LAN may be connected to the LAN of another office group, and it may also be connected to other LANs in the wide world.
There is a newly development network for LANs: WLAN (Wireless LAN). Using electromagnetic waves, WLANs transmit and receive data over the air, minimizing the need for wired connections. Thus,WLANs combine data connectivity with user mobility, and through simplified configuration, enable movable LANs. Over the recent several years, WLANs have gained strong popularity in a number of vertical markets, including the health-care, retail, manufacturing, warehousing, and academic arenas. These industries have profited from the productivity gains of using hand-held terminals and notebook computers to transmit real-time information to centralized hosts for processing. Today WLANs are becoming more widely recognized as a general-purpose connectivity alternative for a broad range of business customers. The following list describes some of many applications made possible through the power and flexibility of wireless LANs.
(1) Doctors and nurses in hospitals are more productive because notebook computers with wireless LAN capability deliver patient information instantly.
(2) Training sites at corporations and students at universities use wireless connectivity to facilitate access to information, information exchanges, and learning.
(3) Senior executives in conference rooms make quicker decisions because they have real-time information at their fingertips.
The increasingly mobile user also becomes a clear candidate for a wireless LAN. Portable access to wireless networks can be achieved using laptop computers and wireless NICs (NIC, Network Interface Card). This enables the user to travel to various locations-meeting rooms,
hallways, lobbies, cafeterias, classrooms, etc. ----and still have access to their networked data. Without wireless access, the user would have to find a network tap.
( ) 31. Which of the following is the most proper title for the passage?
A. The advantages of LAN.
B.The introduction to LAN.
C.The advantages of WLAN.
D.The introduction to WLAN.
( ) 32. Which of the following cannot be used for linking LANs?
A.Cable-telephone.
B.Coaxial.
C.Fiber optic.
D.Wire.
( ) 33. Which of the following can be used for connecting one LAN to the LAN of another office group.
A. Gateway
B. Door
C. Lock
D. Cable
( ) 34. What is a newly development network for LANs?
A. Small LANs
B. WLAN

So, many office workers can easily find the information they want through a personal computer sitting on his/her desk.
For many years, researchers have been exploring the way people think in hopes of creating a computer that thinks like a person. This is so called Artificial Intelligence (AI). It aims at producing a computer system that will be able to communicate with us by speech and hearing, and be capable of solving intelligent problems.
Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) is an educational concept as that places the student in a conversation mode with a computer that has a preprogrammed study plan.
Entertainment consists of games, movies, songs and so on. You can play games at home through your personal computer, and search for or download your favorite movies or songs. But, please remember that you can not do such things too much.
