The Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering has become a popular word these days. It’s reported that our country now has 4.5 million registered volunteers who have offered more than 4.5 billion hours of volunteer work. Some people hold that these kinds of work are nonsense and waste our time. Nevertheless, I believe that doing voluntary is quite rewarding.

Volunteering brings about several benefits to those who are being helped. First of all, volunteering makes you become connected to other people. Volunteers can unite the community as one, meanwhile, can also allow people to interact more, meet new people, and expand their network. When you volunteer, not only does it make your ties to the community stronger, you also meet people who share your interests and gain a wider support group. 

Secondly, volunteering helps you increase your self-confidence, self-esteem, and develop a more positive outlook on life. When doing voluntary, you are doing something good for the community and you will acquire a sense of being needed. Since you are constantly working with others, you are never alone and you are also gaining a broader and more solid support group, which enables you to manage and get through any of those tough times.

Thirdly, volunteering also allows you to develop some important skills for your future career. For those who are thinking about entering a career, volunteering enables you gain experience in the field as well as meet several key people that could help you start out. 

In conclusion, there are certainly many benefits to volunteering.  Becoming a volunteer is not only a good thing for the community, also a great activity for everyone.
