There was an honest and happy little man c 1 Hans. He lived alone in a very small house, but he had a beautiful garden. Every day he worked there. Hans also had many friends, but the miller(磨坊主) was the most devoted one.

Little Hans was pleased that he had a friend with such good ideas. Sometimes, however, Hans’s other friends thought it s 4 that the rich miller never gave little Hans anything in return. Four ways to have a good school life
Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them, and be sure you do not waste this chance to learn?
Be active at school
Don’t say things are difficult or boring. Take interest in school life and your school subjects. Join in lots of activities. Put up your hands quickly in class. Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers cannot make everything enjoyable.
Keep fit
If you don’t eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class. If you go to bed late and don’t have enough sleep, you will feel sleepy in class. Play enough sports every day in order to keep your body strong.
Face the problem
Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. You cannot finish the race if you rest all the time. Everyone fails some exams, loses some matches and has bad days. Don’t make small problems very big and important. Don’t forget to ask for help. You are young, and no one thinks you must do everything quite well!
Spend the weekends
Don’t waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play sports, get together with friends in the park to relax, learn to play the piano, or help someone with problems. If you don’t want to go out, there are also a lot of things to do. You may read a book, practise English or help Mum with housework.

Look at people in the eyes when you talk to them. That way, they will find it easier to talk to you. If don’t, people may think you are not interested in them and may stop talking to you.
Be a good listener. Let people talk about themselves before talking about ‘me, me, me’. Ask lots of questions. Show interest in their answers.
Try to make friends with the kind of people you really like — not just with those who are easy to meet. Be kind to a lot of people. If so, you will have a bigger group of people to choose(选择) from and have more chances(机会) to make friends.

I come from Hainan Island. It is one of the five special economic zones in China. Now let me tell you something about this beautiful island.
Hainan Island, the second largest island of China, is in the south of China. It is famous for its beautiful scenery and warm climate. There is not much pollution. Every year a lot of visitors come to visit the island.
I love all the seasons of my hometown. In spring, people can enjoy quite a lot of sunshine. The sunshine also makes the grass green and helps the plants grow. On warm and sunny days, people like going hiking or riding bicycles in the open air to relax themselves.
In summer, the weather is hot and there is strong sunshine, so almost all the local people like going to the beaches and swimming in the sea. Most people just have the chance to swim in the swimming pool, but swimming in the sea is very different and interesting. I am not a good swimmer, but I like swimming very much.
In autumn, the leaves turn yellow and begin to fall down with the cool wind. I like walking alone in the leaves, listening to the sound of them. It rains quite a lot. I like the golden autumn best.
In winter , many other parts of China are very cold, but in my hometown it is still warm, so winter here is a paradise for the young and the old.

We all want to live comfortably and safely in our community, so we put up（张贴） this notice here to tell you some tips we think you should know.
We clean the streets only on Monday, so please try to keep them tidy and clean and do not leave rubbish on the streets.
The main lights are on a timer( 定时器 ) and they stay on for five minutes when you press them. Please tell us if any lights are not working.
Please keep noise(噪音) to a minimum(最小值). Loud music and other noise can make other people unhappy.
Make sure the outside door is always locked and do not let any strangers(陌生人) get into your house.
Each flat has one car parking space(停车位). These are numbered(被编号) and are at the back of the building. If you have more than one car, you will have to park it on the road.

When people travel abroad(国外), they sometimes stay in the homes of the local people. This is a homestay.
I am living with an old English couple, in the west of London. They have a clean four-bedroom house. This is a new house. It has two bathrooms and a garden with many beautiful flowers. I have a bedroom of my own.
There are some shopping centres and a restaurant next to the house, and the house is close to an underground station. It takes about 30 minutes to take an underground to the centre of London.
I think a homestay may be a good choice for you if it is your first time to visit abroad. The local people are friendly and ready to help. If you want to celebrate the holidays with them, you will get to know more about their culture and customs.
