Independence was mainly drafted by Thomas Jefferson and was adopted by the Congress on July 4, 1776, when the people of 13 colonies in North America were fighting for their freedom and independence from the British colonial rule. The document declared that all men were equal and that they entitled to have some unalienable rights such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The theory of politics and the guiding principles of the American Revolution mainly came from John Locke.

A defining mark of this early New Orleans jazz was that a group of musicians improvising their notes in changing chords around a specific melodic line. All jazz bands use such instruments as a trumpet, a clarinet, a trombone, and percussion instruments like the drum, banjo, and guitars. Jazz developed into the 1920s with two different styles, namely, the Chicago style and the New York style, each style having its own foremost jazz musicians.
