The lesson our group chose is "Body Language". In planning this lesson, both the chosen teacher and the students made a lot of preparations for it. The principle of our whole preparing process is to ensure to grasp the students' interest, attention, to be students-centered and to make the students learn as much as possible.
Following this principle, we succeeded in the first warming up part. This part which is to lead the students to the subject is very important. We made it vivid, interesting and close to everyday life by the use of attractive pictures, acting the body language out, and practicing a bit. Through various forms of teaching, the students responded actively and energetically. As for the new words part, we adopted the method of combining explanation and making sentences by the students. By making sentences using the new words, the students can grasp the meaning and the usage of the new words quickly and effectively. Additionally, the examples should be interesting and easy to be remembered by the students.
Then comes to the grammar part. Grammar is always boring for both the students and the teacher. How to interpret it in an interesting and effective way is the key step. Our group made it interesting by asking students to make funny sentences using the grammar. Thus we finished this part in laughters. As for the text, as we didn't have time to finish it, we just listened, read, and learned about the general meaning of the paragraphs.
To sum up, our group is more or less a success. The students responded and cooperated with the teacher actively and attentively. The class atmosphere was so active and lively that our Mrs. Sun commented that the only shortage of our teaching was the excessive vigor and fun of our class atmosphere. The most praiseworthy is our humorous, articulate, talented, competent and excellent teacher who made our class such a success. From her, I learned a lot. She prepared well before the class, invoked the passion of the students wisely and arranged the class in an orderly way.
In my opinion, the most important quality for a teacher is to have the sense of humor. Of course, other qualities, such as brilliance, ability, patience, knowledgeability, and strictness are also very important. But the first thing to think about for a teacher is how to make the class interesting, lively and make the students learn things effectively and interestedly. Through this lesson I learned how to act properly as a teacher, how to organize the class effectively, how to deal with emergencies and how to get along with the students. To be a teacher is not only to know something clearly but also to pass on them to the students in an effective and acceptable way. One aspect that has to be mentioned is that the least desirable way is that the teacher keeps talking all the time without consideration for the students. Teaching is the process of both interpreting and learning. Paying each aspect less attention, the teaching will be a failure. Teaching is also an interacting process which requires two sides to take part.
