A long time ago, Mencius argued that human nature is fundamentally good as everyone is born with the capacity to recognize what is right and act upon it. But one the contrary, Xunzi argued that people are born selfish and that it is only through education and ritual that they learn to put moral principles above their own interests. In fact, I agree incompletely both of them. And I have my points of views.
I don’t think that everyone is born with the capacity to recognize what is right, as well as being selfish. At the same time, I hold the view that we are born to be an “idiot”, and we cannot tell what is right or wrong, but are also not selfish. Because our intelligence is so limited that we have to be told what is we should do. That means we need proper ways of education from our parents, after all, no one is born to be an evildoer or a good person. Actually, our character depends more on how your parents guide you and what education you have received. We are just like a piece of paper, and our parents are the drawer, the more attentive the painter be, the more wonderful the works will be.
In one word, everyone is a log that need to be graved.
