Should Teenagers Have Part-time Jobs?
Nowadays, more and more teenagers have stronger sense of integrating themselves into the community, and many of them have jobs while they are still students. This phenomenon has raised heated discussion and attitude varies from people to people.
Some people especially parents insist that teenagers should not have part-time jobs while they are still students because it does more harm than good. The reasons are followed.
Firstly, teenagers may not have enough time and energy to concentrate on their study if they take part-time jobs. They will spend their spare time on jobs rather than doing self-study. Thus it will affect their performances in their study which is the most important thing in their age.
Secondly, it is difficult for teenagers to protect their rights when they do part-time jobs without adequate legal knowledge. They should be legally treated but sometimes unfair things do happen to them, which worries their parents a lot.
Thirdly, the experience teenagers obtain through doing part-time jobs does not deserve their sacrifice of time and energy. Since most of teenagers do home tutoring and other manual work, which can seldom train their vocational skills actually, it seems meaningless to be so exhausted struggling between their jobs and study.
However, In my opinion, doing jobs is a good idea for teenagers. The benefits it brings cannot be replaced by other things.
Firstly, doing part-time jobs helps teenagers reduce the economic burden of home. It is a reflection of filial duty and virtue as well as economic independence. Teenagers will not understand the toughness of making a living until they start doing it.
Secondly, teenagers learn how to communicate with others and deal with problems when doing part-time jobs. They have to tackle all the problems they meet without instructions from adults. They ponder and make decisions all by themselves. In result of this, they become more and more independent and sociable.
Thirdly, part-time jobs actually bring experience. For part-timers, some of them may be more skilled than those who don’t have any work experience at dealing with an interview. Some of them may be more capable of teaching a little naughty child than those who never meet such a problem.
Fourthly, doing part-time jobs brings satisfaction and self-esteem to teenagers when they are growing up. By solving problems independently they feel themselves capable and important. Tackling with the relation between study and jobs also makes them efficent. Thus they find more goals rather than just staying at the campus library all day.
Fifthly, the process of doing part-time jobs is concurently a process of learning essentially. If teenagers never have the chance to face the problems of unfairness, how will they be able to cope with them on their own?
All in all, because all the teenagers are to live independently one day, their ultimate purpose is to refine themselves and adapt to the community. Life is not just about plain sailing, but wonders.
