·Academic Adviser（导师）：在学习上帮助学生并为其提供咨询的教师。他们还在学生选课时程中给予协助。

·Academic Probation（留学察看），一般简称为“probation”（试读以观后效）：学生由于学业成绩不佳，可受留校察看鼾，如果度读一段时间，仍然没有起色（如，分数没有提高），即行开除。

·Acadmic Year（学年）：正常授课期，通常为9月到第二年6月份。各学校自行规定一学年分阶段为两学期（semester)、三学期（trimester），还是四学期（quarter）。
