Ann:Hi,everybody.I’m Ann,and I come from France.Now I work for a company in China.I’ve been in Beijing for three years.

Lucy:I’m Lucy.I come from Japan.My family lived in Shen Yang two years ago.And I am learning Chinese in Beijing now. 

Lily:Hello,my name is Lily.My motherland is Amercia.I came to China with my husband ten years ago.Now we live in Tian Ji.

Ellen:You all stay in China for a long time,and I’m sure that you must have different feelings and conflicts about time conscious with Chinese or other foreigners.Could you talk about that?Ann,first?

Ann:Oh,as you know,France is a highly developed capitalist country ,and famous for its red wine and fashion.But Frenchman’s concept of time is an amazing thing.We know that “time is money”,but we are in actual work and life more like saying”give time back to the time”or”tomorrow wil be bright”.Sometimes we wil say someone acts accurately as a clock and don’t know how yo enjoy the life.

Lucy:If we are in French,our Japanese will be clock.Punctuality a character of Japanese in their normal life.We think that time is treasure and so cherished that we can’t waste it.If we late for a dating for 5 minutes,we will feel so embarrassed and anxious.Because our strict attitude to time makes our success in electrical appliance industry.

Lily:Our views of time may be like Japanese.In our country,there is a proverb by Franklin “Do you love life? Then do not squander time; for that's the stuff life is made of.”Americans believe time is a limited resource,they try to conserve and manage it.To Americans,punctuality is a way of showing respect for other people’s time.Being more than 10 minutes late to an appointment usually calls for an apology,and maybe an explanation.

Ellen:If I have a party at 7pm tomorrow,when you will arrive? 

Ann:Maybe 7:30pm.It’s normal for us to late for 1 to 2 hours,especially when we take part in a party.

Lucy:Before 7pm or 7pm.We always arrive on time.

Lily:7:10pm or 7:15pm.We think that friends who have a closest relationships with you will arrive before 7pm,the others who arrive before 7pm aren’t polite.

Ellen:In China,you would better arrive the host’s house on time.Chinese think it shows your respect to the host.Different countries have different time-consciouses.As a foreigner,we should respect their custom. Thanks for your listening,see you next time.
