I. Words and expressions 

1. Hair

a. Color: black, jet-black(very shiny and black in color), blond, brown, grey, red

E.g. hair tinged with grey 有些花白的头发

b. Texture: coarse, dry, dull|(光亮的头发) beautiful, glossy, shiny, sleek, silky | smooth

c. Style: straight, curly, wavy, wiry(stiff and strong like wire)

  E.g. 把头发盘成发髻/梳成辫子/马尾辫

put/wear one's hair in a bun/ in braids/in ponytail

她的黑发挽成了一个整齐的发髻

Her black hair was drawn back into a neat bun.

d. Thickness: bush, thick |bald

e. Length: long, short, shoulder-length

E.g. She had shoulder-length black hair.

E.g. His hair was tousled and he looked as if he'd just woken up.

2. Face

a. General description: angelic, beautiful, handsome, lovely, pleasant, pretty, sweet |

 plain, ugly, terrible 

b. color: colorless, grey, pale, white |

   flushed, pink, red, ruddy (红润) 

E.g. Her face was flushed after her run. |

c. shape: heart-shaped, oval, round, square | 

d. others: bearded, freckled（长雀斑的）,unshaven, clear-shaven | lined, wrinkled(布满皱纹的) |fat, plump

3. Complexion

a. fresh, glowing, healthy, lovely, nice, perfect

b. bad, dull(暗哑), pale, sallow(脸色病黄), yellow

c. olive, swarthy, tanned(健康黝黑的)

d. florid, pink, rosy, ruddy （脸色红润）

a young girl with a rosy complexion

   She was fair-complexioned with pale blonde hair.

4. Eyes

a. amber(琥珀色), blue, brown, dark, golden, green, grey

b. big, huge, large, enormous| narrow |beady(晶亮如珠子), piggy（small and unattractive）

c. bright, brilliant, luminous, lustrous, sparkling, starry （明亮的）

d. clear, limpid, liquid (清澈的)

f. deep-set, sunken 

E.g. 大而亮的杏核眼 big, bright, almond eyes

5. Eyebrow

a.浓淡 heavy, thick | thin  

b.浓密但凌乱: bushy, shaggy, unkempt 

c.颜色深浅：dark, jet-black

d.形状： winged | arched~柳叶眉|plucked ~ 修过的眉毛

E.g. straight eyebrows slanting upwards and outward剑眉

6. Nose 

a. big, bulbous（big and round）, enormous, huge, large, long, prominent|

b. little, small, stubby(短粗), tiny

c. snub, flat(塌鼻子)

d. thin, pointed(尖)，straight, tip-tilted(翘)，hooked（鹰钩鼻） 

7. Mouth

a. big, enormous, huge, large, wide | small | 

b. beautiful, chiseled, handsome, lovely, pretty, sensuous, well-shaped  

c. firm, hard, strong(large and noticeable, especially in an attractive way ) 

E.g. A smile played around his strong mouth. 

d. soft | hot, warm | loose, slack | full, full-lipped | lipless, thin | toothless | 

9. Lips

chapped, cracked, dry | moist | fleshy, thick | thin | firm

10. figure

11. Expression

II. Text analysis

Sample 1

    Marie has long black hair that falls down to her shoulders and surrounds her diamond-shaped face, which is usually suntanned. She has dark brown eyebrows over her blue eyes, which are rather large. Her nose is straight, and on the left side of the bottom of her nose, by her nostril, is a small mole. She has small mouth with lips that are usually covered with light pink lipstick. Her teeth are straight and white. 

1.Is this paragraph coherent?

2.Is the young lady attractive or plain? Can you tell the author’s attitude about the girl’s appearance?

Sample 2

Marie is as beautiful as any Hollywood star. Her thick, wavy, long black hair gracefully falls down to her shoulders and surrounds her exquisite diamond-shaped face. A golden suntan usually highlights her smooth, clear complexion. Her slightly arched chestnut brown eyebrows draw attention to her deep blue eyes, which remind me of a lake on a stormy day. Her eyes are large but not too large, with thick eyelashes. Her nose is straight, neither too long nor too short. A small black mole on the left side of her mouth adds to her beauty. And her mouth! It is a small mouth that looks delicate and feminine. Her lips are rather thin, but not too thin; her light pink lipstick adds another touch of beauty. When she smiles, which is often, her well-formed and even, white teeth brighten up her whole face. There is nothing but extraordinary beauty in the face of Marie.
