Self-confidence

Being self-confident means having a firm belief that you can do things well. If you want to succeed in doing anything, you must have every confidence in your abilities, otherwise, you will hardly achieve anything. Some people always complain about how difficult their tasks are and how incapable they are. They often refuse to try, and therefore do not give themselves the opportunity to overcome difficulties and improve themselves. This shows their lack of self-confidence.

 “Confidence in yourself is the first step on the road to success”. We should make sufficient preparations and encourage ourselves before we set about doing anything so that we can achieve success, which may help us gain self-confidence. We should have a good attitude towards our abilities and should never look down upon ourselves. In addition, we shouldn’t be afraid of mistakes or failure, for we all learn from our mistakes and “failure is the mother of success”.

Friends and Character

Friends exert great influence on young adults. Students who hang about with pleasure-seeking and frivolous fellows will be negligent of their studies, but wrongdoers will feel guilty in the presence of noble-minded companions and can often turn over a new leaf.

 ——one takes the color of one’s company. Both the family and friends are dyed. What determines the young adult’s color depends on how long he stays near the dye. So a family exerts a gradual edifying influence on children. As they begin to make friends, family member usually become less influential, because they spend less time in their own families. The longer friends live with them, the greater influence they have. My neighbor’s son may be a case in point. For many years, the father has been boasting how well he educated his son and what achievements the child made in the middle school five years ago. However, his son was arrested the other day for having robbed a bank. It turned out that the young man was on intimate terms with some hooligans and fell into evil ways. It was these friends who persuade him to commit the crime. From this story a conclusion can be made: tell me who a person’s friends are, and I can tell you what kind of person he is.
