W: How can I lose weight, doctor? I seem to get fatter even when I just look at the food.

M: Well, Jane. It is a combination of how much you eat, the type of food you eat, and when you eat your meals.

W: I never eat breakfast.

M: That’s a big mistake. You should have a good breakfast every day. 

W: I never thought about it that way.

M: I bet you eat a large evening meal, then sit and watch TV or read a book. Instead of burning off your energy, your body stores it as fat.

Question 1: How long have you had a weight problem?

Answer 1: I was quite thin when I was a teenager. I only weighed 52 kilograms when I was 18 years old. But after I turned 25, I started gaining a lot of weight. Maybe I need to exercise more.

Question 2: What kind of exercise do you do now?/ What type of exercise do you take now?

Answer 2: Well, I used to play badminton when I was in high school. But now the only exercise I get is from walking up the stairs in my apartment building. But I only live on the third floor.

One evening, a mother was giving her young daughter some bread with butter on it. But her daughter wanted jam on the bread as well. The mother didn’t like to waste food, because there were too many hungry people in the world. So she told her daughter that when she herself was a little girl, she only had bread with either butter or jam on it, but never with both. Hearing that, her daughter felt sorry for her mother. Then she asked her mother if she wasn’t happy to live at their house now.
