How do Foreigners Learn Chinese ?

The number of people learning Chinese around the world is about 100 million .But it was 30 million in 2004. What difficulties do foreigners usually have when learning about Chinese ?And how do they overcome these difficulties?

Mike Fuksman, a writer from the US, has lived in China for more than seven years . First, he takes Chinese classes on weekdays. His teacher is very helpful, but his progress is still slow. Then he finds 

that the best way to learn Chinese is to make friends with native speakers and spend time with them. So he starts playing in a band with a Chinese woman and they become best friends in Beijing. He learns a lot of Chinese by hanging out with her. He thinks it is a good way to exchange language and culture.

     These days ,there are more foreigners than ever who are studying Chinese. We can understand why: It’s a wonderful language and there are always new words waiting to be discovered.
