Give life a chance - organ donation

Organ donation is the removal of the tissues of the human body from a person who has recently died, or a living donor, for the purpose of transplanting. Only people over 18 years old with full civil capacity may be the organ and tissues donors. 

Every year, there are over 150,000 patients in China awaiting the transplantation. But only 104 patients can undergo the organ transplantation. It means until now only 104 Chinese are willing to donate their organs. Compared with the 150,000 patients every year, it can be ignored. Every year, 150,000 people die. They leave us forever. And the patients who need an organ transplant is increasing by 15% a year. But, the organ donation rate is far less than the demand rate.

The reason why Chinese are unwilling to donate their organs?

The traditional concept, the shortcomings in education and the fear of abuse of organs are the reasons why people in China are unwilling to donate their organs. Sure, the system now is not perfect, it needs a lot improving and we are still in the constraint of traditional ideas. But, China is a nation with love and we are the people with love, look what we have done in the Wenchuan and Yushu earthquake and look what we have done to save the social vulnerable groups, we still believe in the love we have .

As we are not familiar with the organ donation, we may think it’s a horrible thing. People always think that why should I donate my organs after my death not to mention when I am alive? And it’s none of my business. But imagine every year there are 150,000 people leave this wonderful world, they can’t see the beautiful sunrise; they can’t hear the beautiful music; they can’t breathe the fresh air; and they can’t be with their families as we can do. They sleep, forever. Maybe until the last moment of life, they are still waiting, waiting for a suitable organ; they are still hoping, hoping that “oh, someone will donate his organ which just suits me and I’ll be fine after the operation, then my parents will not cry forever and I can look after them again.” However they are all scenes that only happen in dreams. But you can turn it into reality. Give life a chance——donate your organ.  It’ll be a life present for others. One of those two will get your organs, the patients or the trash? You decide.
