Flag of China is also referred to as the “five-star red flag”. The color is red representing revolution. There are five yellow five-pointed stars on the top left part of the flag. Compared with white, yellow is brighter and more beautiful, representing the Chinese nation as yellow race. One star is comparatively larger than the other four, which represents the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The four smaller stars represent people of four classes in Chinese society. One point of each small star faces the center of the larger star, which represent the unity of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Chinese painting, the traditional painting in China, has a long history. There were paintings on silks in Warring States period over 2000 years ago. Tools and materials used in Chinese painting are brush, ink, paper and silk and so on. There are three main subjects of Chinese painting: human figures, landscapes, and birds and flowers. Originated from Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting is essentially an art of line, which attempts to arouse images and emotions with paints. The content and art creation reflect the recognition of ancient people on nature, society, philosophy, religion, morality and so on.

Table tennis, the national ball game of China, is a sport event popular around the world. From 1960s, Chinese players have won a great majority of championships in the world table tennis competitions. Thus China plays a dominant role in the event. There are various versions concerning the origin of table tennis, in which the most popular and widest accepted is that it originated in Britain in 1900. It is also known as “Ping Pong” in English because of the sound of “Ping Pong” in hitting the ball. In the 1988 Olympics, table tennis became a formal Olympic event.
