Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to know the importance of sleep and form a habit of sleep early.
Thesis Statement: Sleep early is important for us.
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Attention material/Credibility Material: Everyone needs to sleep. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Kids need even more than adults. A good night’s sleep helps us to keep our mind and body healthy. If we do not get a good night’s sleep, we may feel sleepy or tired the next day.
B. Tie to the audience: Does it matter when we sleep? Definitely.
C. Thesis and Preview: Today I’d like to talk about first, the importance of sleep, second, how to form a habit of sleep early.
[Transition into body of speech]: I’ll first begin with the benefits of sleep.
II. BODY
A.Getting a good night’s sleep can have many benefits. Sleep is needed for our bodies to make natural and necessary repairs. You can look younger because the skin and hair get better by obtaining the nutrition. You will be more likely to stay at a healthy weight. You will be less likely to get sick. Sleep is not only aiding our physical health but also a remedy for our mental well-being. You can boost your brainpower to think more clearly and do better in school and at work.
[Transition: I’m sure that you can see the benefits of adequate sleep.]
B.Inadequate sleep is harmful not only to our bodies but also to our daily lives. If we do not get a good sleep, we often feel sleepy, sometimes, in low spirits. This will affect our brain’s functions and efficiency. For example, sleepy drivers cause thousands of car crashes every year. Inadequate sleep even results in health risks such as high blood pressure and heart disease. For our students, it seriously affects our study. According to a survey of universities, 36% of students get to bed after midnight, including 9% who get to bed after 1 a.m. and 55.7% feel asleep during the daytime, 22.1% fall asleep all the day.
[Transition: Wow, your body likes sleep more than you thought! You can see that it is import to have adequate sleep every day. But how can we have adequate sleep.]
C.Sleep early is the best way to guarantee good sleep. We have a natural cycle for when we feel tired and awake. Our “biological clocks” are set to help us stay alert during the day and make us sleepy between midnight and 7 a.m. It is necessary to change to your routine according to a regular sleep schedule. Try to stay away from caffeine in the afternoon, take a hot bath before bed to relax, listen to light music or read books to make you feel sleepy.
III. CONCLUSION:
As the saying goes, ”Good sleep a day keeps a doctor away”. So stop whatever you do before midnight and get to bed early tonight. Next morning, when you wake up, you will smell the benefits of sleep!
