This story happened when I was in Saint Lucia with my family.
My sister, Diana, who also happens to be my best friend and one of the funniest and kindest people I know, went blind in one eye about 9 years ago. Diana sometimes feels troubled about the way her eye looks now. The pupil (瞳孔) is no longer black ; it's kind of "glows” in photos.
Diana recently bought a special contact lens that makes her eye look like it did before it changed color, but she doesn't wear this lens often because it becomes quite painful after about an hour.
One night during our holiday, a hotel photographer was taking pictures of the guests as they entered the area set up for dinner.
Diana felt regretful and said if she had known there were going to be pictures taken to record this special moment, she would have worn her contact lens so her eye wouldn’t be so shiny in the picture.
The next day, I was sitting with Diana and her husband Ted. While we were talking? the photographer who had been at the dinner the night before, handed her a photo, leaned in and quietly said “I matched the color of your eyes in the picture.”
As he walked away, my sister happily said to me and Ted, “Look! He fixed my eye!”
The photographer stopped. He turned around and walked back to our table.
He put his hand on Diana's shoulder, leaned in again and gently said, "Just to be clear: I didn't fix your eye. There isn't anything wrong with your eye. I simply matched the color."
Her eyes filled up with tears. It was very warm for her heart to hear these beautiful words. It didn't take much time and made so much difference. It helped her change the way she feels about herself.
I have always loved these words: "The world is full of good people. If you can4 find one, be one!”

Researchers found how parents’ communication styles help their young children to develop language skills. Daniel Yurovsky, professor in psychology at Carnegie Mellon University and his team developed a method to experimentally evaluate how parents use what they know about their children's language when they talk to them. They found that parents have extremely exact models of their children's language knowledge, and use these models to tune (调正)the language they use when speaking to them.
“We have known for years that parents talk to children more differently than to other adults in a lot of ways. For example, simplifying their speech, repeating words and stretching out vowel sounds.” said Yurovsky. “That helps young kids get a toehold into language, but whether parents change the way they talk as children are learning language, gives children language input that is ‘just right’ for learning the next thing.”
Yurovsky and his team continued to study to understand exactly how parents tune their interactions to match their child's speech development. The team developed a game where parents helped their children to pick a specific animal from a set of three. Half of the animals in the matching game were animals that children typically learn before age 2, like cat and cow. And the other half were animals that are typically learned later such as peacock and leopard. The researchers asked 41 child-adult pairs to play the game. They measured the differences in how parents talked about animals they thought their children knew and those they thought their children did not know.
They found parents had an unbelievable exact knowledge of their child's language because they had watched them grow and learn. These results showed that parents leveraged (利用) their knowledge of their children’s language development to fine-tune the information they provided.
“We found that parents not only used what they already knew about their children's language knowledge before the study, but also that if they found out they were wrong-their child didn't actually know ‘leopard’ for example-they changed the way they talked about that animal the next time around” said Yurovsky. "Right now we train language models by giving them all of the language data we can get our hands on all at once. But we might do better if we could give them the right data at the right time, keeping it at just the right level that they are ready for. " Yurovsky added.
30. Why do parents talk to children differently than to other adults?
A. To reduce kids' fear to face difficulties.
B. To help develop their kids' language.
C. To make their talks understood.
D. To call for their kids' attention.
31. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The ways parents tune to match their child's speech.
B. The game that helps children to pick a specific animal.
C. The experiment to find out exact talking ways parents use.
D. The methods children and parents use to talk with each other.
32. According to the writer, language trainers or teachers should___________.
A. explain the word ' leopard' in another way
B. leverage children's knowledge to fit theirs

A Light in the Dark
For students, study is very important. But not all of them can have a good environment to study. Recently, a 15-year-old girl called Ann Makosinski learned that a friend of hers in the Philippines couldn't study after dark because her friend's home didn't have any electricity. Then Ann wanted to help her. As a result, Ann invented a flashlight that was powered by heat from the human hand.
The human body keeps producing heat. That is why people feel warm when they touch things. Ann wanted to see whether human bodies can make enough heat to power a flashlight. She thought that a special kind of tile (贴片) called a Peltier tile might work for her purposes. A Peltier tile produces energy when opposite sides of the tile get in touch with different temperatures. Ann tried to find a useful way to create different temperatures. She decided to build a hollow (中空的)flashlight and put Peltier tiles into it. She thought that if a warm human hand covered one side of the tiles while the other side of the tiles was exposed (暴露于)to cooler air, the tiles would produce energy to make light.
Ann worked hard on her idea. First, she had to balance (平衡)the flashlight project with her schoolwork. Then, she had to make difficult calculations (计算) that required much research. She said that there were days when she wanted to give up. But she also encouraged herself that she must keep going. Finally Ann's calculations led her to the solution, and her hollow flashlight produced light. At first the light was too dark, but Ann kept experimenting and correcting her design until the flashlight shone more brightly.
Ann showed her invention in the 2013 Google Science Fair. She was one of 15 students from around the world who were invited to present their designs. Ann won the top prize in her age group and a $25 ,000 scholarship. She hoped that her flashlight can help people who can't make use of electricity. She said, “I want to make sure my flashlight can be useful to those who really need it.”
34. Why couldn't Ann's friend study after dark?
35. What did Ann decide to put into her hollow flashlight?
36. How did Ann make the flashlight shine more brightly?
37. What was Ann's hope about her flashlight?
38. What kind of person do you think Ann is?
