17、Have you ever had a science class that you look forward to? It doesn’t happen often. But when you have a teacher like Mrs. Rheineck, it’s more than a science class. It’s a science class where learning is easy and fun. There is no getting down to a huge textbook or listening to a teacher about something you don’t care about.
My experience with Mrs. Rheineck didn’t start with science class, but with her as my tutor(导师,家庭教师). I was always a weak reader and wasn’t getting any better. My parents told me I needed to be tutored.
One day after school, I went into the library with my mom for my first tutoring time. I had no idea who was tutoring me. My mom practically had to pull me into the library. The first thing we did was to play a game to get to know each other and get rid of the awkwardness (笨拙,尴尬). We didn’t even play a reading game.
We also went around the library and I got to pick out a book I wanted to read. She didn’t make me read a boring textbook about something I didn’t care about. I didn’t even pick a book. I picked out a magazine about remote control cars. I thought to myself, how bad could it be? I got to read about remote control cars. She told me even though I was reading a magazine, I was still reading. After the first magazine, she picked out a book she liked. I would read a chapter(章) and then she would read a chapter to me, this way I didn’t have to read for long periods of time.
As I got better and faster at reading, I was able to read two chapters in the same amount of time, which used to take me to read one chapter.
Reading is one of the most important things in high school and college to be successful. If it wasn’t for her, I would not be the reader I am today and I thank her for that.

A.Because the writer was too shy to talk with others.
B.Because the writer found science easy and fun.

A.chose any book he was interested in

18、You know how much your telephone has changed over the past 10 years? Your car will change even more than that in the next 10 years. One of the biggest changes is that cars will drive themselves.
"We certainly have the technology for it now." says Andrew Poliak of automotive(机动车辆的)technology supplier QNX ."We expect self-driving cars to be a mainstream(主流)thing between 2020 and 2025."
The American company Google has been working on self-driving cars for years. These cars are already on the roads in the United States and are truly self-driving. Last week, the police ordered one of Google's cars to stop for driving too slowly on a public road. The car was not breaking any law, so no one was punished.
Another American company, Tesla, added an "Autopilot" feature(特点) to its cars last month. With the Autopilot turned on, the vehicle drives itself. The car will speed up, slow down, brake(刹车) and drive by itself. You can take control of driving any time by turning the steering wheel or touching a pedal. The car uses sensors(感应器)to know when driveway changing is safe and whether it should speed up or slow down.
Tesla Autopilot is made for cross-country driving. It keeps you in the driveway and helps you avoid hitting other cars. It does not work well on local roads, for it will not stop at a red light or stop sign.
Reporter Carolyn Nicander Mohr tried the Autopilot feature(特点) of a Tesla earlier this month. She had a hard time trusting the car to do what it should do. She thought about canceling the Autopilot feature many times during her trip. She wanted to take control at every corner in the road and hit the brake when the car in front of her slowed down. However, the car drove perfectly itself.
Other companies like Marcedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo and Toyota are all working on self-driving cars, too.
1.What do Andrew Poliak's words probably mean? ______
A.It is too difficult for people to make self-driving cars now.
B.Self-driving cars will be first put on the market in 2020.
C.There will be more self-driving cars in use in the near future.
D.Nobody loves to use self-driving cars at the moment.
2.Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.One of the Google cars was fined for breaking the law last week.
B.The Tesla’s car with Autopilot feature can sense traffic lights in front of it.
C.Tesla Autopilot car worked much better than Reporter Carolyn expected.
D.Tesla Autopilot is made for cross-country driving as well as local-road driving.
3.Which word has the same meaning as “autopilot” ______ .
A.speed up B.self- drive C.slow down D.brake
4.According to the text, how many companies mentioned(提到)are working on self-driving cars?
A.Three B.Five C.Six D.Seven
5.From the passage, we can infer(推断)that ______ .
A.Self-driving cars are popular nowadays.

19、Learn to Be Thankful
I still remember a rainy day when I was in Grade 7. On that day, I overslept and hurried to school by bike. At a street corner, I fell down and hurt my legs so badly that I couldn’t move at all. A passer-by sent me to the hospital at once. I was so thankful that I decided to help others from then on. A few weeks later, on my way to school, I saw a blind man standing at a crossing. I helped him cross the street and showed him to the place that he wanted to go to. How happy I was!
It’s important to learn to be thankful. If everyone can help each other, the world will be full of love.
