Teaching difficult point: to use “If虚拟条件句” in writing.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 lead-in

Show a piece of music:  

If I were a boy, I think I could understand

how it feels to love a girl.

I swear I would be a better man.

I'd listen to her because I know how it hurts.

                                      If I were a boy

Step 2 Giving examples and analyzing the structures of the sentences

1. If I were a man, I would hire a housekeeper for my wife.

2. If I had a housekeeper, I would have more free time.

3. If I had enough free time, I could learn to draw comics.

★结论：与现在事实不符时

If...did/were, ...would/could/should/might do...

Exercise: What would you do if you were a different sex for only one day?

If I were a boy/ a girl, I would/could/should/might...

1. Tom went to a party.

2. He came home late.

3. He overslept the next morning.

可以转换成：

If Tom had not gone to the party, he wouldn't have come home late at night.

If he hadn't come home late at night, he wouldn't have overslept the next morning.

★结论：与过去事实不相符

If...had done..., ... would/could/should/might have done...

Exercise: Can you continue the story?

4. He missed the last bus.

5. He walked to work.

6. He was late for work.

可以转换成：

If he hadn't overslept the next morning, ....

Some students are not satisfied with the canteen, and if you were the canteen manager tomorrow, what would you do to improve your service?

1. If I were the canteen manager tomorrow, I would offer more reasonable price.

2. If I were to be the canteen manager tomorrow, I would hire a more skilled cook.

3. If I should be the canteen manager tomorrow, I would provide more delicious food.

★结论：与将来事实不相符

If...did/were to/should do..., ...would/could/should/might do....

If I should be a millionaire tomorrow, I would/could/might.... 

Step 3 Application in writing

高考书面表达中准确运用If虚拟条件句，会起到锦上添花的作用 

For example:

1)Were I in the past, I would stay in British in the 19th century, where and when the Revolution of Industry was flourishing.

2)Should I be given the opportunities to travel to the past, I would like to go back to Qing Dynasty of early 20th century when China was in disaster.

Step 4  Summary

Imagine you future college life and write a short passage(100 words).
