Dear Xiao Wang,
I am most happy to receive your June 16th letter and hear that you are going to visit me during the first week of July. Do you still remember our trip to Lijiang in Yunnan Province, which has left me so much happiness and enchanting memory? I am looking forward to reliving the exciting experience and having a happy time together again.
On the day when you arrive in Shanghai, let’s go to a typical local restaurant to taste local food and dishes, OK? On the next three days let’s go to visit places of interest, especially the Bund, the People’s Square, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jinmao Building and the Grand Theater. You should not miss the Shanghai Old City, by which the typical old buildings are to be found and the Wild Animal Zoo, where wonderful performances are on show every day. During the last three days, I will accompany you to make purchases, especially on Nanjing Road, Huihai Road and North Sichuan Road. If you want to buy clothes or accessories of the newest fashion, I can bring you to Xiangyang Market, where you can feel free to bargain with the sellers.
I advise you to make preparations before you come. Remember to take your identity card and digital camera. And I will wait for you at the railway station since four o’clock.
I am looking forward to your reply and wish you a good journey.
Best regards.
Yours sincerely,

A Letter to the University President About
the Canteen Service on Campus
假如你是李明,请你就本食堂的状况给校长写一封信,内容应涉及食堂的饭菜质量,价格,环境,服务等,可以是表扬,可以是批评建议,也可以兼而有之。
January 12th,2002
Dear Mr. President,
I am Li Ming, a junior student from the Department of Psychology, I am sorry to occupy your precious time, but I really want to talk about the canteen service on campus.
The canteen service seems to be getting worse and worse ever since last semester. The dishes are so limited that they seem to remain unchanged day after day. To make matters worse, the quantity has been on the decline while the prices are on the rise. It is true that we have a large and clean dining-hall, but is still can’t meet the increasing demand of all the students and teaching staff. If we do not finish our morning classes ahead of time, some of us can not find their seats in ten minutes. The service is also far from satisfactory. The waiters and waitresses are so indifferent and cold that they would rather sand still than help the diners. It seems to me that all they have to do is receiving money and hanging out bowls and plates.
Dining hall is connected with the daily life of every student on campus. The deteriorating quality of dishes and unsatisfactory service have aroused concern from all the students. I hope you can help to put an end to this situation and restore our confidence in the canteen service.
I am looking forward to your reply.
Best regards.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming

A letter to the Editor of a Newspaper
1. 事情的起因
2.与书店交涉的经过
3.呼吁服务行业必须提高服务质量
June 19,2006
Dear editor,
I am writing to inform you of my unhappy experience lately. On June 5th, I went to buy an Oxford English Dictionary for Advanced Learners at the Friendship Foreign Bookstore. Unfortunately, when I went home, I was astonished to find that several pages were stained, some were folded, and a few more were even missing.
To resolve the problem, I immediately went back to the bookstore and managed to find the same shop assistant. I made great efforts to meet the manager in person, only to be told it was not their fault.--- the publisher was the real part to blame.
Up until now, I have been thinking of this happening. I believe that it is more than necessary for the whole tertiary industry to improve the service quality. Only when the service is performed properly and satisfactorily can the needs of the customers be satisfied sand national economy be put on the right track.
With best regards.
Yours faithfully,
