The first floor 

The hall

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the history museum of Shanghai Customs College. I’m your museum announcer today. As you can see, the architecture of this building is Spanish styled and it is a copy/replica of the original building on Fenyang Road. The original one was built in 1932, designed by the famous Wu tak foreign firm（邬达克洋行）at that time. We began to use that building as one of our school office buildings in 1953. In order to make the young generations remember the history, we copied the unique and typical building here when we moved to the new campus in 1997. The building has 3 floors, and our visit will begin in this hall.

Now as you can see, the sculpture on the wall presents that thousands of vessels on rivers are competing for the advancement（千帆竞发，百舸争流）.  The Chinese words on the wall tell the spirit of our college-- patriotic, ambitious, open, and versatile. You can take photos here after the visit.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, let’s proceed to the first room.

Room1

The first part in front of us shows the scene of the inaugural ceremony of our school. In 2007, Mr. Mu Xinsheng, former commissioner of the General Administration of China Customs (GACC), and Mr. Xi Jinping, the former General Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee of CPC and current Chinese President, inaugurated a new period for our school—from a junior college to a regular college. It was a memorable and historic moment. Mr. Han Zheng, the former Shanghai mayor, also attended the ceremony. This school plaque you see here is the original one in the photo. It witnesses our school history.

Now let’s go back to 1908. Our university grew from a tax school. At that time, the headmaster was Mr. Tang Shaoyi, who was also the first prime minister of the Republic of China.

Let's look at this photograph taken on Fen yang Road. This is our former campus.Now, what you can see is the People’s Daily in 1953, recording the founding of the Shanghai Custom School, a historic moment for our college.

You may see the number of the enrolled students is much bigger than before. We have cultivated many excellent talents and outstanding figures, for example, Qian Guanlin and Duan Mujun, they served as commissioner and deputy commissioner of China Customs. Here are photos of some former leaders. They all made great contributions to the school.Mr.Jia Zhenzhi, the headmaster of our school and Shanghai Customs director. and Like this gentleman, Mr.Feng Huaquan, a supervisor from the General Administration, he was in charge of school events. （右中）The gentleman was one of the old leaders who made great contributions during the resumption of our school in 1980.（右上）And He is still alive.

Inside the showcase, there is a red armband, which was used by our school students in the Great Cultural Revolution, and later was collected by our teachers. And this is the certificate of admission at that time. With the advance of technology, the one I got is much prettier than this one. These are the certificates of awards, collected from some excellent alumna.

Okay now, let’s move to the second room of the first floor.

Room2

This room presents the record since the resumption of the schooling in 1979. Our school used to be temporarily closed because of the Great Cultural Revolution. On May 8th ,1980,based on Shanghai Custom School, Shanghai Junior Custom College was founded after being approved by the State Council. In 1996,Shanghai Junior Customs College changed her name to Shanghai Customs College. In March,2007.Shanghai Customs college was upgraded to an undergraduate institution, approved by the Ministry of Education.

Now as you can see in these showcases ,there are school badges from different stages of our college’s development......

As you can feel, this room is full of the atmosphere of vintage, because you can see many old copies here. They were all used in the old times. For instance, the type writer, the table, the chair and the map, are all the original office supplies. This room also recreates the old school gate on Fenyang Road, showing us the beautiful memories of the old time. The old school gate, the furniture of the old dormitory and the very old computers are all unforgettable things.

In the middle of this room is the replica of the former campus, which was handmade by one of the graduates in 1994. The museum is the copy of this building(point) and the original one is under charge of Shanghai Customs now.

There are many leaders coming to visit our school every year, just as you can see on the photo wall.

Okay, that’s the first floor. May I have your attention, ladies and gentlemen, please follow my steps to the second floor. More details are waiting for us.

The second floor

On the second floor of the Museum, we have five thematic showrooms. 

The teaching material

The first exhibition room shows the teaching material. Up to now, our school’s education has formed our own system. Since March 2007, our school began to organize undergraduate education, in accordance with the patriotism tradition of “being patriotic, exerting oneself constantly”, putting the school motto----“learning, endeavor, practice, self-discipline, loyalty” to the whole process of talent training all the time…Here focus on the construction of teaching material, these books are of different periods.

The wall 

Look at the wall, This is Chinese calligraphy, written by China’s former state officials. For example, this calligraphy is done by the former vice premier----Li Lanqing.( You may introduce different styles of writing)

The scientific research

The theme of the second room is scientific research, and what is displayed in the window are our professor’s research papers as well as some high quality books. This is Lycoptera fossil, which is found in western Liaoning---a province in north China, and is dated back to about one hundred and forty million years ago. It is the treasure of our museum and was sent by the customs of the first special training for government and party cadres in 2012. 

The international training

 The third room shows the international training in our college. Our training work began in 1999, involving a great number of countries and regions, including Africa, Asia, Europe, America, Oceania and customs in Hong Kong and Macao regions, also the international organizations such as the World Customs Organization.  On November 24 2004, the WCO Asian-Pacific Regional Training Centre for Customs in China was founded in our school. According to the assignment of the WCO and the demand of regional customs in Asia-Pacific region, the training center is responsible for capacity building initiative for customs official of this region. Look at the side walls. It shows the number of trainees who have received training in the center, which is about 6000-7000.In the middle of the hall, They are souvenirs sent by the customs who have been trained in our college.

The international exchange

As the only school which features the customs administration, Shanghai Customs College not only pays attention to the research in China, but also attaches great importance to the academic exchange. Look at this unique coat. It is a typical Mongolia's traditional costumes, which was given by the Mongolia customs. As you can see, these pictures show the development of our school in the area of foreign communication. Our school plans to strengthen the development of foreign training and catch up with the trends of international customs community. We are planning to further develop the Customs Information Center. We also map out to launch the International students Project. Let’s look at this glass-frame cabinet. It stores many souvenirs from many countries which have established the exchange relationship with us. As you can see in this room, we have accomplished a lot of achievements in the international exchange. We are ready to score further progress in the future.

The student affairs

This room has close relation with us——the students, showing paramilitary management, student employment, volunteer activities such as the World Expo volunteers and world swimming championships volunteers，culture festivals , classic art in campus , theatrical performance, etc. Here are medals awarded.  

That’s all for the second floor. Now let’s move to the third floor.

The third floor

The photo wall

Here is the third floor. First you can see a number of graduation photos on the wall , memorizing those who accompanied the school in its development . Some of them have become customs officials, the others may have found their dreamed work. When they come back to alma mater ,they would like to talk about the good old days and memories of the beautiful campus life together.

The honor room

Now we are going to visit the honor room. Since the establishment of our school, we have displayed those various honors here. The trophies, and the testimonials（证书）, prove our efforts and achievements. We , men of SCC, take unremitting efforts and every firm step to win honor for our school. Each step is worth commemorating. Here you can see another treasure of the museum--the ox bone sculpture, in the middle of this room.

Photos of history

In the middle room of the third floor, there are many photocopies of the 50s and 60s. There are also a piece of brocade sent by Haikou Customs and a piece of panda embroidery sent by Chengdu Customs.

The message wall

This is the last stop. The “tree” is our massage wall for the visitors to leave some words on the tree, such as blessing and expectation. If you like, you may write some words on the small card, as a token of wishes to our school. If you have finished writing down the words ,you may feel free to have a look at the souvenirs around in the room. Finally, thank you for your visit !
