Even if not that careful, we can still observe today that international tourism has been widely accepted by most people and has become part of our lives. When it comes to whether an increasing number of countries should develop their tourist industry, I would point out such practice is well-deserved.
Actually, there has been an undeniable phenomenon that certain travelers, more or less, impose somewhat serious damages on the environment of the host country. It is because of such naïve and even ridiculous behavior as treading on grasses, littering around, scribbling in public places, etc. Additionally, lacking understanding of local customs will also give rise to some social unrest. Therefore, there are some disadvantages in opening doors to develop tourism.
Nevertheless, if we further explore this issue, it can be identified that the merits which are born by tourism outnumber demerits. For one thing, it is obvious that international tourism brings a large amount of benefit to many countries, especially in South Africa, which used to be a poor and behind place. As international tourism booms, it now has become one of the promising and famous travel spots. Would not it be powerful evidence showing the significance of supporting tourism?
For another, for individuals, it is an effective access of enriching one’s knowledge and broadening one’s horizons. Visitors nowadays are able to gain swift and convenient chances to get acquainted with local culture, just as an old saying has it that “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Consequently, international traveling is able to provide foreigners with open-mindedness and an international vision. Gradually, the regional prejudice will be eliminated, thus forming a diversified outlook of the world.
To put all in a nutshell, it is my firm conviction that goods of thriving international tourism are no fewer than harms. So this practice ought to be encouraged.
