教材分析

本节课是本单元第一课时,以Animals in a zoo为话题,要求观察图片和听说活动,来引领学生参观动物园,其目的让学生了解各种动物的英文名称,描述动物的特征及谈论个人对动物的喜好,说出喜欢和不喜欢的理由。这节课话题由what、where、why引导的特殊疑问句来谈论对动物的喜好,“Why do you like ...? Because they are .... Where are they from? They are from ...”动物名称和描述动物特点的形容词是教学的重点。通过教学让学生认识到保护动物的重要性。

学情分析

学生已经学过由why, where, what引导的特殊疑问句句型,具备本单元的基础知识。各种动物能激发学生好奇心,而初一学生喜欢与人合作,对英语有一定的兴趣和很强的学习欲望,有利于本单元知识的教学和学生学习兴趣的培养。

I. Teaching aims教学目标：

1. Knowledge aims：Master the key words，phrases and sentences.

(1) Key Vocabulary: tiger, elephant, panda, lion, koala, giraffe,

 cute, lazy, smart, beautiful,scary, kind of, 

Australia, South Africa     

(2) sentence structures：

A: Let’s see the … 

B: Why do you want to see …?

A: Because they are ….

B: Where are they from ?

A: They are from ... 

2. Ability aims: (1)To observe and describe animals.

                 (2)To talk about their preferences

                 (3)To know the implied meaning of some animals

3. Emotional aims: Animals are our friends .We are living on the same earth . We are supposed to live with animals in a harmonious way. We ought to learn to care for and protect animals.

II. Teaching important and difficult points 教学重难点：

1. be able to describe the characteristics of animals, using some new adjectives.

2. be able to show preferences for some animals and give reasons as well.

IV.  Teaching steps 教学过程

Step 1. Warming-up and lead in

Bring two animal toys to the class and ask the students if they like them and then play a video about animals .After watching it ,ask the students to answer two questions: What animals can we see in the video ? Where can we see so many animals ? 

设计意图: 用视频导入,来活跃气氛,将话题引入到本课相关的动物上。通过问题引导学生说出视频中动物的英文名称,激发学生的兴趣,引出下个教学步骤。

Step 2. Presentation

1. Show some incomplete pictures of animals and ask the students to guess what animal it is .Students try to guess and remember the names of the animals.

设计意图:Students motivate their learning interest by saying the names of animals using what they have learned. 

2. Ask the students to describe some animals, express preferences, and give the reasons in groups, and then in class. 

设计意图: Enable the students use description words to talk about animals and tell the reasons .利用学生熟悉和感兴趣的图片教形容词,简单易懂、便于记忆 。

Step 3. Pair work

1. Ask the students to make dialogues according to the sentence structures  A: Let’s see the … 

B: Why do you want to see …?

A: Because they are ….

设计意图: 通过小组合作,操练所学句型,老师不要给动物加上固定的标签,只要学生各自表达出自己对动物的感受即可,接受学生个性化的答案,让学生的语言更丰富,更具个性化。

2. Show a world map with different kinds of animals in all parts of the world . And ask the students “ Where are lions from? ” The students will answer “ They are from South Africa. ” Then make conversations about their favorite animals using the following structures .

A: What animals do you like ?

B: I like ...

A: Why do you like them ?

B: Because they are ….

A: Where are they from ?

A: They are from ... 

设计意图: 通过师生互动,生生互动,整合教材,学习新知,根据学生喜欢的动物,再引出动物的产地,操练句型,突破这堂课的重难点。

Step 4 . Listening Practice 

1. Listen , write and draw to match:

3. Check the answers.

设计意图: 把教材内容与2a,2b 整合,回归课本,完成听力练习。通过听力练习,笔头练习和朗读等多种方式,充分的锻炼学生听、说、读、写的能力。

Step 5 . Make an Interview 

1. Work in groups of four and ask the other students the questions about animals：What is your favorite animal ? Why do you like them?          

Where are they from?  

2. Fill in the chart and then give a report.

   In our group , Tom likes giraffes . Because they are kind of interesting .And they are from South Africa . ...... likes .......   Because they are .......  And they are from ........

设计意图: 模拟采访情景,去掉语言支架,创设表演任务,来鼓励学生通过展示,达到巩固知识和语言输出的目的。让学生在听说活动得到充分展示,获得自信心,产生成就感。

设计意图: 通过对学生进行德育教育，让学生们逐渐意识到动物的重要性，从而自觉的爱护动物，保护动物，进而激发学生们对大自然的保护意识，增强环保观念，成为符合科学发展观的新一代人才。
