A young boy was sitting in the back seat of the car eating an apple. He asked his father, “Why does my apple turn brown?” his father answered, “When the skin is removed, air reaches the flesh of the apple and causes oxidation (氧化). This changes the apple’s molecular(分子的) structure and results in a brownish color.” The boy asked, “ Daddy, what are you talking about?”

I know how that boy feels. Sometimes I want answers to some of those confusing questions that we all meet with, such as how to get through difficult times or what to do in a tough situation. I just want to get it right.

The problem is that I don’t always have the answer I need. Nobody else seems to have them, either. So I go on making mistakes and think that I’ll never get it right. 

Often I didn’t know what to do. I often made poor choices, but I gradually improved. Then I realized that I don’t HAVE TO always get it right. I don’t have to always know what to do all the time. All I really need to do is try my best, learn from my mistakes and go on.

Dr. Leo Buscaglia once said, “ No one gets out of this world alive, so the time to live, learn, care, share, celebrate and love is now. That would be pretty hard to do when you’re waiting for all the answers first.”

So you got it wrong. You made a mistake. So what should you do next? Forgive yourself and try again. You may not get out of this world alive, but you can get plenty of life out of this world if you are not too worried about always getting it right.

    Throughout the history of the arts，the nature of creativity has remained constant to artists. No matter what objects they select，artists are to bring forth new forces and forms that cause change—to find poetry where no one has ever seen or experienced it before.

    Landscape（风景）is another unchanging element of art. It can be found from ancient times through the 17th-century Dutch painters to the 19th-century romanticists and impressionists. In the 1970s Alfred Leslie，one of the new American realists，continued this practice. Leslie sought out the same place where Thomas Cole, a romanticist, had produced paintings of the same scene a century and a half before. Unlike Cole who insists on a feeling of loneliness and the idea of finding peace in nature，Leslie paints what he actually sees. In his paintings，there is no particular change in motion，and he includes ordinary things like the highway in the background. He also takes advantage of the latest developments of color photography（摄影术）to help both the eye and the memory when he improves his painting back in his workroom.

    Besides，all art begs the age-old question：What is real？Each generation of artists has shown their understanding of reality in one form or another. The impressionists saw reality in brief emotional effects，the realists in everyday subjects and in forest scenes，and the Cro-Magnon cave people in their naturalistic drawings of the animals in the ancient forests. To sum up, understanding reality is a necessary struggle for Artists of all periods.

It’s become acceptable for people to say that women work less than men and therefore deserve less! It may have been true in the past when women were expected to stay at home and look after children, but women have changed over the years. They have “come out”! Gone are the days when they worked very hard at the kitchen stove all day long; they are now aware of their needs and are willing to fight for them. They expect to be given the respect they deserve, both at home and at work. They have realized their intellectual potential and have determined to do something with it!

     Women on two wheels have become a familiar sight on the roads of most Asian countries during the past few years. It is common to find a woman who takes her children on her bicycle to school and then reaches her office in time. It would have been unimaginable a few years ago! She has become a major part of family decisions in every aspect and how those decisions are carried out.

These days, the word “emo” is used in the US for a range of different kinds of people, from those who are depressed to those who have long hair. If you prefer to keep things to yourself, this isn’t called “ being shy” any more; it’s called being an “emo”. If you often wear dark colors---such as black---instead of bright or happy ones, you’re in an “emo” way. If you’re male and have long hair, you’re an “emo”. This one word seems to cover all sorts of different personalities, styles and ways of behaving.

Why does this word have such a vast range of meanings? How was it even made up? Well, “emo” is short for “emotional”, so obviously it was originally meant to describe over-emotional people. Yet somehow it came to take on meaning that seem to be quite remote from this one. I like to wear black a lot, for reasons of personal taste, not because I have any problems. I also have long, naturally dark hair. It’s long just because I prefer long hair, and I am in a band. Also, I’m not a very talkative person, because most of the time I’m occupied with writing songs, or something along those lines. In any case, all of this has caused people to start calling me an “emo”.

Let me tell you what I think a real “emo” is, however. I think an “emo” is somebody who is constantly depressed, and always lets other people see his sadness or other negative feelings. I’m just tired of people who aren’t really “emo” being called that just because of their appearances, and not based on any knowledge of what they’re really like.

      There are two basic ways to see growth: one as a product, the other as a process. People have generally viewed personal growth as an external (外在的) result or a product that can easily be identified and measured. The worker who gets a rise, the student whose grades improve, the foreigner who learns a new language---all these examples of people who have measurable results to show for their efforts.

        These feelings of insecurity and self-doubt are both unavoidable and necessary if we are to change and grow. If we protect ourselves too much, then we stop growing. We become trapped inside a shell of our own making.

Now with people’s living standard rising sharply, more and more parents are sending their young children overseas for further study, even when their children are still very young. The advantages can be concluded as follows. To begin with, their children can receive a better education and develop a high level of competence in language learning skills. In addition, they can also seek more career opportunities and make more money in the future.
