pay attention to (attention前不能使用one's , 但可以用little, much, special等词修饰)

⑵revolution   n.:  a great change that affects many people'.

The revolution brought happiness to the people in that country.

The automobile caused a revolution in transport.

3.If you open up any medicine cupboard or go to any medicine counter in the world, it is likely that you will find aspirin and penicillin. (L1-3)

◆open up  ① 打开,开启 ② 开门, 营业,

⑵prove + (to be) adj/ n  结果证明/后来被发现是..为系动词，不用被动语态

5. Nearly 3,500 years ago, people chewed on leaves(咀嚼树叶) or drank a kind of tea made from leaves possessing a special chemical（含有一种特殊化学物质） to reduce body pains and fever. (Page 18, Lines 8-10)

(1) possess v.: to have or own something

He is always proud of possessing such good friends.

Though plain-looking, Lucy possesses great intelligence and high popularity among her classmates.

It was thought that the root of this plant possessed magical powers and many villagers used it to treat illnesses.

归纳总结：

被…控制 be possessed by/with 

拥有某物（主语通常是人）  in possession of sth.

为某人所拥有（主语通常是物）in the possession of sb.

get/gain/take possession of sth. 拥有某物

come into the possession of 得到

(2)reduce means 'to make something less or smaller'.

The company tried to reduce the cost of the products so that they could make more profit.

  The price of vegetables will be reduced when summer comes.

  Our work days have been reduced from six to five a week.

6. It was in 17 that a European chemist called Dr Felix Hoffmann produced aspirin from this chemical. ( L12- 13 )

试着强调句子的其他部分。

 1) 分析句子结构: 句中when引导非定语从句。该从句中又包含了一个定语   从句，即the company Hoffmann worked for，修饰先行词the company.

2) trial  n. 

①试验，试用 [U,C]

 a three-month trial period 

该新药在批量生产之前经过了多次医学试验。

The new medicine went through a number of medical trials before it was mass-produced.

We must put the machine on trial. 

Translate: 我们必须试运行那台机器。(试用，试运行)

 = We must give the machine a trial.

 We had the machine on trial for a week. （在试用中，在测试中）

Children learn to ride a bike by trial and error.（通过反复试验，不断摸索）

3)把…分发给内科医师   distribute sth to physicians                             

4）take place

【知识拓展】：表示“发生”的几种表达:

take place指“（某事）按计划进行或 “举行” 

happen一般用于偶然或突发性事件

occur①作“发生”解，其意义相当于 happen。

② “想到、突然想起”

come about多指事情已经发生了,但还不知道为什么,用于疑问句和否定句。

break out意思为“发生、爆发”，常指战争、灾难,疾病或者争吵。
