................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
The Brazilian Association of technical standards (ABNT) is the National Forum for standardization. The Brazilian standards, whose content is the responsibility of the committees in Brazil (ABNT/CB), the Sectorial standardization bodies (ABNT/ONS) and Special Study commissions (ABNT/EEC), are drawn up by study Commissions (EC), formed by representatives of the sectors involved, one part: producers, consumers and neuters (universities, laboratories and others).
The technical documents shall be drawn up in accordance with ABNT rules of ABNT Policy, Part 2.
The Brazilian Association of technical standards (ABNT) draws attention to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be subject to patent law. The ABNT must not be considered responsible for the identification of any patent rights.
The ABNT NBR 5601 was drafted in the Brazilian steel Institute (ABNT/CB-28), the Commission for Study of steel flat products (EC-28: 000.03). The project ran in national consultation as Edict n9 07, 14.07.2011 the 12.09.2011, with the number of ABNT NBR Project 5601.
This second edition cancels and replaces the previous Edition (ABNT NBR 5601: 1981), which has been technically revised.
The scope of this Brazilian standard in English is as follows:
Scope
This Standard establishes the designations and classifies the different types of stainless steels according to their chemical composition.
This Standard establishes five classes of stainless Steel:
the)class a: austenitic stainless Steel (not hardenable by heat treatment);
(b))class B: martensitic stainless steels (hardenable by heat treatment);
(c))class c: ferritic (non-hardenable by heat treatment);
d)class d: duplex and Super duplex stainless steels;
e)class e: Precipitation hardening stainless steels.BRAZILIAN STANDARD
ABNT NBR 5601:2011 Stainless steels--classification by chemical composition
1. Scope
1.1This standard establishes the names and classifies the different types of stainless steels in terms
of chemical composition.
1.2This standard defines five classes of stainless steels:
the)class a: austenitic stainless steels (not temperáveis by heat treatment);
(b))class B: Martensitic stainless steels (temperáveis by heat treatment);
(c))class c: ferritic (not temperáveis by heat treatment);
d)class d: duplex and Super duplex stainless steels;
e)class e: endurecíveis stainless steels for precipitation.
2. Requirements
2.1Analysis of Pan
2.1.1The analysis of pan is the term applied to the average chemical composition of a steel race, retrieved from samples taken during the casting or remelting process.
2.1.2Tables 1 to 6 1 set out the limits of the levels of the elements relating to the analysis of pan.
2.2Verification Analysis
2.2.1The analysis of verification is done on the semi-finished product or finished.
2.2.2The permissible variations in chemical composition specified must be in accordance with Table 7.
2.3Elements of contamination
2.3.1Residual chemicals can be found in all stainless steel. Elements considered dangerous for both humans and the environment shall be monitored and reported in accordance with current legislation.
2.3.2Any limitation required involving a special control on raw materials and additional analytical determinations must be previously agreed between customer and supplier.
1The values set out in the tables are identical to those set out in ASTM A240/A240M-04a, ASTM
