2. Background:There are 48 students in our class, 25 girls and 23 boys are included. Most of them are 13—15 years old, grade 8. The majority of them have learned English at primary school, so their basic skills are not bad. At this age, students usually have a strong sense of curiosity, with a passion for new things. This lesson is around “holiday and vacation” to carry out teaching activities. The content is close to their lives, it’s also a topic that they are willing to discuss and share with others.

| Step 2. Presentation Work on 1a (8mins) 1. Dictation (Task 2) T:This part will be finished in small groups. Every group selects a representative to come to the blackboard, the others write in your exercise-book. I will read each word twice. Please give me the spelling and Chinese meaning. If all eight members of the group got everything right, this group will get 5 points as reward. 2. Read the words and let students read after the teacher. 3. Point to the last picture and say: “This is a cake. It is delicious.” Then let students do the same thing for all six pictures. 4. Let students match each word with a picture. Then check the answers with the students. 5. Have a brainstorm. Ask students to list as many description words as they can. The one who writes the most words is the winner. Work on 1b (5mins) 1. T: Image if you are in the situation like the pictures in 1a, using the words in 1a to say something about your feelings. And then thinking which situation will make you happy or sad. 2. T:Just now, we use different words to describe our feelings for some situations. Please find out the two kinds of symbols of the words. 3. Let students discuss and explain the meaning of “ words” and “ words”. 4. Let students divide those words into two groups according two kinds of symbols and then write them down on the line. 5. Let some students read out their words to the class. 6. Tell students that they can use these two kinds of description words to describe their vacations.

| Step 3. Listening (task 3) Listen to 1c and 1d(10mins) Before listening Let students guess what Lisa will talk about her vacation. While listening Before listening, students read the questions in 1c for the preparation of the listening exercise. Let four students translate these questions in front of the class. Make sure all the students know the meanings of the questions. 1. Play the recording for the first time. Students only listen. 2. Then play the recording for the second time and guide students to write down the words they hear in the exercise below. ①Where did Lisa go on vacation? She _____ to ______. ②Did she do anything special there? What was it? She went to a ____ ____. It was really ________. ③Did she buy anything for her best friend? After group discussion, let some groups show their answers in front of the class, and the other groups comment on the performance. And then choose the best group by pronunciation and intonation.
