Part 1 Teaching Material
This is an important lesson in Book Four. This lesson is the first one of Unit 3.The main content of this lesson is to know about the real pets and imaginary pets.This topic is related to our daily life, so it is helpful to raise learning interests of students and it will be also helpful to improve their spoken English.

Part 4 Teaching steps
I’ll finish this lesson in seven steps. First, I’ll divide the students into four groups, and bring a competition into the class . At last, let’s see which group is the winner.
Step1:Revision (复习)
Review what we had learnt last class.
Step2:Leading-in (导入)
There are a lot of animals in the world, people should protect animals around us. Have you ever been to a zoo? What animals did you see? Show pictures of animals to the class.Ask“what’s your favorite animal?Why? Would you like to keep one as a pet?”
Steps 3 New words
1.Introduce the new words on the screen: pet imaginary
First, have the students guess the meaning in context, then, tell them the meaning and teach them how to read.
2.Read new words.
Step 4.listen and answer
To improve their listening abilities and skills, I’ll play the audiotape, ask the students to close their books and listen carefully with some simple questions, I’ll play the tape twice. Find out which group will answer the questions correctly.
1.listen to the tape with the following questions:
(1)Does Jenny have a pet? What is it?
(2). What animal would Danny like to have for a pet?
(3)What animal will Brian have for a pet?
2. Check the answers then read the text.
Step 5 Read comprehension
1. Let ss read the text with the following questions:
(1) .What does Jenny’s pet like to do?
(2).Why does Brian want to plant a tree in his bedroom?
2. Read again and find the phrases.

1. Let ss read it after the tape.
2. Let ss read it by themselves loudly.
Step 8: Role-play
To improve the students’ expression ability ,I’ll give the students some time to practise the dialoge in groups. Then ask the three groups to act out the dialoge again. Find out which group will be the best.
Step 9 Come to Project
•Say “Some people have dogs for pets.Some people have fish for pets. Describe your pet, or describe a pet you would like to have. Write three or four sentences about your real pet or imaginary pet. Draw a picture to go with your sentences. (I give an example to the class) I have a/an ___ pet. It’s a____. Her/his name is ___ . I like it because she/he is ___ . She/he has _____(eyes, nose, ears …) . she/he is ___(colour) . She/he likes ____. I keep it in/at ____(place)…(encourage the students to use their imagination) .Then say three sayings about animals. Every dog has his day. Love me, love my dog. He is a lucky dog.
Step10: Summary(总结)
Sum up what we have learnt today. Then do some exercises on the screen.

Part 6 Self-assessment
During the class,I made the Ss discuss about their pets in English.I encouraged the Ss to speak loudly. and helped them build up their confidence, especially the poor ones.I gave the Ss encouragement as much as possible. The class was comfortable, and the Ss were active.
